Just a quick post recommending that for spells which do damage and require a saving throw instead of an attack roll that if the target rolls an unmodified 1 on their save then they suffer a critical hit from the spell (ie maximum damage). This would put such spells in line with attacks.
As an aside note that this wasn't an issue in 4e since all attacks, be they spells or weapon attacks, made attack rolls which could score critical hits on a natural 20. The loss of the ability to do crits with spells in DDN is simply a possibly unintentional side effect of DDN having weapons make attack rolls but many spells require saving throws instead. This suggestion is just to correct that possible oversight.

This isn't a terrible idea, all things considered. I'd be willing to run with that rule.

As long as it doesn't juice your equipment I'm fine with it.
What I think the Wilder Design Goals should be. Psionic Homebrew Mk2! Changed core, Focus Points, Psionic Potentials, stuff! Very basic core stuff. :P Homebrew Psionics blog posts archive: Spoiler:

UPDATED Dec/18/2012: BAMN! Random update with a modest amount of hard rules for Animal Affinity, Telepathy, and Telekinesis. ADDED: Discipline Burn and more "soft" ideas. Dec/13/2012: Small Psionics Homebrew Update, now that I'm done with Finals.
Really old. Nov/02/2012: I'm working on a homebrew Wilder, and so a homebrew Psionics system. Here's a 3 part post with info on where I am in the design process. Part 1, Hard rules/example soulknife discipline: Link. Part 2, Basic ideas/goals on basic numbers and classes: Link. Part 3, Direction/ideas I want to take with specific disciplines: Link.:3

I've actually been toying with the idea of bringing back critical fumbles in my games (I kind of miss them, but I hated having to pack thirty bow strings on every ranger I made). This would be a good one for a damage spell.
