3 turns hiding? How so?
In the playest packet discussion forum section there is a post about a 14th level rogue and how to achieve high levels of damage that explain my train of thought; they need to hide for a turn, then a called shot turn then the damage turn. three turns with chances to be spotted.
In regards to thread necromancy, my understanding of forum manners is not to post multiple threads on a controversial issue.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't think your post was controversial at all, let alone as controversial as this thread's namesake.

The biggest problem of 3.X editions, in my opinion, is that there are some classes (like the Fighter) who are NOT capable of doing ANYTHING impossible for some other class (like the Wizard), hence the term "linear warriors, quadratic wizards". There was no practical reason to play such not-fun classes along the war gods outside fluff.
If they were able to do at least one single something not possible mechanically or numerically for other classes, things might have been a bit nicer for them. Then again, such classes that do have unique flashy features (like the Monk) still have other problems, though……. (like MAD, middle BAB, etc.)
p.s. I didn't read the whole thread, so maybe there's someone who made similar suggestions as me, but anyways.

I'll admit I didn't read this thread but I argue that there exists a linear "quadratic" wizard which will satisfy everyone with the right rules. See my explanation at community.wizards.com/kezzek/blog/2013/0...Simply scale spell power with wizard level and spell level at the appropriate level. Even when you give the wizard more spell slots each level, the rates of growth of a fighter and wizard can be roughly equal. If you scale it appropriately, the "quadratic" wizard rises in power level at the same speed as a linear fighter.

The quadratic wizard equation stemmed from 3e's spell scaling i.e. the spells got better as the wizard got higher level but still only cost a low level spell slot, and the wizard got more spell slots.
The cut down spell slots and the fact that spells now scale on the spell slot they're prepped in fixes a lot fo this issue.
They're still no where near balanced but that's a versatility/fighters can't have nice things issue rather than a scaling problem (except that the fighter stops scaling past level 10).

I agree, the scaling power of magic will need to be addressed in 5e. Perhaps have spells such as
"fireball of the 3rd circle" and "fireball of the 6th circle" etc.
"If it's not a conjuration, how did the wizard

it?" -anon
"Why don't you read fire·ball / fī(-ə)r-ˌbȯl/ and see if you can find the key word con.jure /'kən-ˈju̇r/ anywhere in it." -Maxperson
