What if guns are just easier-to-use crossbows, though?

Then it's just flavor, and all it takes is a sidebar that says...

"Once guns becamse as easy (or easier) to reload and fire than bows, they quickly replaced bows as the ranged weapon of choice.  If you want to run a campaign with guns, simply give pistols the stats of a masterwork crossbow, and rifles the stats of a masterwork longbow.  If you want automatic weaponry spraying dozens of bullets a second, you're on your own."

They like to keep their prey befuddled with a combination of vampire charms and pixie magic and fatten them up on nectar, honey and other sugary things, once the blood sugar level is to their liking they lull the vitim to sleep so they may easily feed. The corpse, if it is ever found, smells of rancid sugar and has to be burned lest the graveyard be overtaken by giant ants.

One thing I've always wished is to be able to play every single, intelligent race in the monster manual. 3rd edition got a little close to that, but if you had to respect the rules some were complitely unplayable. What good was my 7 hit dice rakshasa in a party of all 14th level people? Then people say, if you played a 14 hit dice rakshasa you were too powerfull for your allyes. Hell who cares?
Actualy the ones who play whith me, so I'd like to see some way, some module, some whateveryourbigbrainofprofesionaldevelopercanthink to make it playable but not gamebreaking to a pont my friend could actualy think a way of killing me.

* Goblyn was a creature from Ravenloft who could drink blood and he wasn´t undead.

* Rebember PC and humanoid monsters could use more a gun. Loading wouldn´t be necesary if other guns can be got after.

Pero magic could neutralize gunpowder easily. If it isn´t creating water to wet firearms the spell could be more dangerous, the explosive detonates by a magic spark. The gunman could need counterspell protection.

...Or the deity Gruush could punish PCs sending ghosts of resentufl warriors who died by guns ("death without honor")

Aldrein, the problem with monster races, and some player races, is that the rules need to allow that race to be played at 1st level. If the weakest version of a monster is even 3rd level, that creates problems. Likewise, players need to be able to fight monsters at all levels without it feeling like battling an evil NPC.

I guess the best way to do this would be to allow monsters as PC's, but to make them "handicapped" so that they start the game at 1st level. Another option would be to have everybody start at 5th level (for example), so that monsters of 5th or lower level can be incorporated into the party.

I like the idea that they'd work similar to the repeating crossbow, just with a generally larger magazine.  And possibly a requirement behind the larger ones with a big kick.

Vanador: OK. You ripped a gateway to Hell, killed half the town, and raised the dead as feral zombies. We're going to kill you. But it can go two ways. We want you to run as fast as you possibly can toward the south of the town to draw the Zombies to you, and right before they catch you, I'll put an arrow through your head to end it instantly. If you don't agree to do this, we'll tie you this building and let the Zombies rip you apart slowly.

4th edition is dead, long live 4th edition.
Salla: opinionated, but commonly right.

@ Salla, Well how do you expect a pixie vampire to behave?

One suggested build of Elric has Stormbringer as a second player character - (hey reflavor a pixie even). Can occupy the same location, launches its own attacks parallel may be doing Warlord aid tricks to ahem inspire Elric. Stormbringer did low altitude flight to return to elrics weapon locker when elric tried to discard it in to the ocean...
