I personally have far more fun thinking of magic as a hard science similar to physics. There's basic physics, that you learn about in public school. Then there's the really cool stuff, that only the pros even try to get an in depth grasp of.
And there's always the knowledge that half of what is known about physics right now could be proven wrong in the next 10 years, and we'll have to rethink all of it.
That, to me, is far more exciting than something that is inherently and irrevocably not understandable.
And thus magic makes sense, while Pinkie Sense makes no sense.

You ripped a gateway to Hell, killed half the town, and raised the dead as feral zombies. We're going to kill you. But it can go two ways. We want you to run as fast as you possibly can toward the south of the town to draw the Zombies to you, and right before they catch you, I'll put an arrow through your head to end it instantly. If you don't agree to do this, we'll tie you this building and let the Zombies rip you apart slowly. This man speaks the truth.
More sex and gender equality and racial equality shouldn't even be an argument--it should simply be an assumption for any RPG that wants to stay relevant in the 21st century.
I could say anything in D&D is silly though, because it's a silly game and we are silly people.

Oh please, Mordenkainenist Relativistic Thaumotology has been thoroughly debunked by Evard's Universal Theory.
Though I've heard Mordenkainen's Widow was rich and after Evard's black tentacles devoured her husband, she had him labeled a madman and bribed the Peer Review board to back her husband's idiot theories...
But we all know the truth...

Universal Theories are much safer in our world, where (one hopes) such forces don't exist.
Also, Mordenkainen had it coming. Guy was a massive d-nozzle.
I think I'm going to drop Mordenkainenist Relativistic Thaumotology in a campaign....I've only got a wizard in FR, though...hrm...

Magic makes sense. If magic didn't make sense, it wouldn't be repeatable. If it weren't repeatable, it wouldn't be on our character sheets 1/day or at-will.
Magic has got to be like an infant technology. One day, magic will take us to the moon! (In Spelljammer, it did way better than that.)
Ever see the movie Cast a Deadly Spell or look at GURPS Technomancer?

This. Magic is repeatable and predictable, or spell casting PCs don't work.
Now, I'd love to RP in a system where only really low level magic, mostly from gods or nature, could be used by PCs (like, little enough magic that you wouldn't think to design a class around it's use. like, the 3.5 ranger is too magical, I'm talkin here), and "real" magic is the stuff of legends or grand mary sues and villains, but that isn't DnD.
You can do it with DnD, by banning certain classes, and adding in some houserules to make minor little magicks available to classes that normally couldn't do them, but it's a wild deviation from what is "Core", "Classic", "Traditional" or "Sacred" in DnD.

No. Rather, it can be changed by any number of variable, even by simple observance itself.

How could I say no to that much cuteness? Yes, Samrin, yours is yours.
Such cuteness attacks are of a potence to be inherently evil.. how dare he pull out the nukes...

PIE bonewitz, has a nice book Authentic Thaumateurgy which has some pretty good underlying magic system elements it isnt perfect and he sucks at game and mechanics design. But its an interesting flavor resource for purposes of having an exploitable techno-babble.
