I heard that it would support all eras of play and by that it might have meant ruleset.

It seemed pretty clear to me that they're going to keep it rules light, so that it can be used with any edition/set of modules, and support multiple timelines.
More sex and gender equality and racial equality shouldn't even be an argument--it should simply be an assumption for any RPG that wants to stay relevant in the 21st century.
I could say anything in D&D is silly though, because it's a silly game and we are silly people.

Cool! Glad to hear this thanks guys. The 5E Info Thread on EnWorld has bits of info apparently: Settings
- The Forgotten Realms will be supported from the start, and a video game art studio from China has been hired to fully detail the Realms. We asked if going forward support would be continued for the current time after the Spellplague and the Neverwinter Campaign. A WotC spokesperson answered, "The Forgotten Realms has a rich history and we will support all of it. It is for the gamers to decide which time they would enjoy playing in." That would allow Wizards to take advantage of a massive back catalog of products.
- On timelines: "I can't give a specific answer to that. We know there are things that people like and dislike about different timelines in the various settings. If there's information that's part of the canon, it still happened. We won't tell people in what time period to play in." - Mike Mearls.

.. however it will still be alot of pages......
Which means two possibilities:
a) They produce twice or thrice as many material as before (and each only for a limited part of their audience and for a limited part of that limited part actually) b) They produce as much as now, but it will be spread between 2-x periods meaning next to nothing for everyone, but at least all everyone gets the same next to nothing thus no one can complain about one time period being favored

It'll probably be a combination of the two. There will be articles that focus on one specific timeframe, ones that focus on a couple timeframes, ones that make no mention of timeframe, and some even that have info for a handful of timeframes.
Probably decided on a case by case basis, for the most part.

I find the chinese video game art studio to fully detail the realms interesting. Detail it how, maps? Other art work. A new FR atlas, does anyone have any Ideas?

Character visualizer and virtual table? Flashbacks to 2007 all over again.
Want to know more about the history of D&D, especially how to play older editions of the game? Check out Crazy Monkey's "Tour through the editions":

The current edition is BECMI, the most popular form of Basic D&D and the adventure is the classic Red Box quest to kill Bargle the evil magic user. Check it out, learn about the games roots, and enjoy the story as it unfolds.

Maybe this time things won't go pear shaped with the third party, and we'll actually see what they advertise. :P
