I have cobbled together a framework of terms and concepts that may be helpful to us. I posted my work in my blog,

I thought that many of you might appreciate this or at least find it interesting.

Fair enough DoctorBadWolf.
I think here is where we have part of the divide, for I do see D&D more like a genre of music or like a radio station (thus why I put forth the analogy).
For me, D&D was never the face of fantasy; merely a small part of it. As far as being the face of the TTRPG hobby, I am more inclined to agree with you.
Still, there is a part of me that doesn't see those who like D&D the way it is as being wholly wrong. Diversity for diversity's sake can be just as bad as full on exclusion.
Does the fact that most of the characters in the Lord of the Rings are white make it a bad story? See, I have no problem with most of the LotR cast being white, any more than I have a problem with an R&B group being all black. To me, it is what it is, and pushing the crusade too hard in these cases doesn't foster diversity, it fosters division.
I know some here disagree with me and that's fine, but it is how I feel. From the get go on this thread I supported diverse art, but I am not enamored with quotas for reasons that I am seeing in this thread. Quotas aren't just being used as a tool to foster inclusion and diversity, but also as means of exclusion and as a basis to force a political agenda while making those who do not agree into villains. Now, how is that going to help the hobby?

long term goals that cant hurt.... might not help in the long run either.
buisiness goals tend to be short term and how much can this make me money and how much money.
the right thing to do for the wrong reasons.......
I'm stuck in the middle somewhere..... of it all.
but I've no problem with the race and classes sections showing the front chapter art of varios races at a table playing 3 dragon ante.... ot a dwarven drill sargeant dressed in some militia colors barking orders to a gnome and a halfling as they wack some wooden training dummie.
and the spell section..... not sure.......
at the various races pages.... not so much..... especially if its the return of 4e's vertical art.
which reminds me .... I need to do something after I get back from IHOP.
a mask everyone has at least two of, one they wear in public and another they wear in private.....

No, it can't. It can also be bad, but not as bad as exclusion.
And there's nothing wrong with the ethnic make up of LoTR because it's not a product being released right now. We can view it it's own context and not worry about diversity.
The same is not true of DnD. If DnD is exclusive it is because someone, right now, is making a decision to make it that way, and that isn't acceptable.
At some point, we have to accept that excluding a type of person from something for no reason other than tradition is wrong. Tradition is less important than equality and inclusiveness.
More sex and gender equality and racial equality shouldn't even be an argument--it should simply be an assumption for any RPG that wants to stay relevant in the 21st century.
I could say anything in D&D is silly though, because it's a silly game and we are silly people.
