It was said that 5e's first PHB will have every class contained in all the PHB1 of all editions. I like this.

But the Elf and Dwarf were classes in early D&D. Were they in a "PHB1"? Cause they are not mentioned by designers.

I think the were talking of the AD&D branch of D&D. I was told by someone on this board that Basic, Expert and Companion are a parallel line of products to AD&D. Dwarves and Elves class is part of that line. :-)

The versions of D&D that have Elf, Dwarf, and Halfling as classes do not have a book titled Player's Handboook, so those classes can be left out and the claim that all classes found in a PHB 1 are included would still be true...

That said, simulating those classes is easy:

Dwarf: Fighter with high constitution
Elf: Fighter/Wizard
Halfling: Fighter again, possibly with a bit of a Rogue class involved
Careful, man.  That much logic might be illegal on the internet. - Salla

Those classes existed in D&D Basic Rules, and the Rules Cyclopedia.

Mystic was in the Rules Cyclopedia iirc.  No way are they bringing that back - or I could be wrong?

The Mystic's schtick has been pretty much taken over by the Monk post-RC. The Monk's probably in, seeing as it was in the 3e PHB and also has a precedent as early as OD&D and BD&D.
