I demand proof of this allegation of bearded women - I just read the dwarf race entry in both my AD&D 1st & 2nd edition PHBs and saw not one mention of beards at all, female or otherwise.

As for dwarven women actually having beards in a game... it's called HackMaster 4e, and it should definitely not be imitated.

And the tacky thread award of the month goes to.......

I can't find any mention in any edition of beards being a defining dwarf characteristic of either gender.

Yar.  Say what ya will about 4e art but it did do one damned fine thing: it made dwarf chicks hella hawt.

A fine source of art portraying strong, attractive women who are neither overly chainmail bikini'd or too damned skinny, like the elf ladies.

I'm Pashalik Mons, and I approve beardless dwarven women.

Seriously, though, you should check out the PbP Haven.  You might also like Real Adventures, IF you're cool.

Good, then I'm not the only one seeing dwarf beards being exactly like human beards.

Aaron and Qmark I'm working off memory here because my mom threw away my old copies of the Dragon magazines after I joined the Army back in 81 but I believe there was an article on Dwarves where the author mentioned female Dwarves with beards.  It wasnt official canon more fluff.

However then as now put me in the no beards camp.
I'm second from the left in the picture.

Hey man. No Hatin' just because you don't like it.

I started this thread as an alternative, yet on topic debate for this sub-forums. I personally prefer smooth chin and cheek and lipped Dwarven Females.

Also, There is a few dwarven women drawn in 3.5. Races of Stone has two that I can think of off the top of my head, without out going and getting the book.

The game should reflect the real-life, modern, progressive-yet-stereotypical social and romantic world where a large number of the menfolk aren't in to procreating and would rather make attractive things:  Dwarf women don't have beards, they are beards. Tongue Out

As far as I know, the only place there's some reference to dwarven women having beards is Tolkien's garbage.
Another day, another three or four entries to my Ignore List.

I would actually very much like to see less detail about the races in those bits that are not pertinent to game mechanics.

I DM 2 FR games on and off, my Dwarves live almost a thousand years and are born from stone (as in carved out by other dwarves) My elves live in the neighborhood of 10k years and many npc elves they meet are adventuring elves on the 2nd or 3rd dual class (I play very house rulled 2nd ed)

Thing is, almost none of that has anything to do with mechancis or changes how the game is actually played, at all.   So if you don't like that I did that, it's cool, because there is no reason whatsoever we have to play the same.
Thanks to Vrythas of the OOTS forums for making my Avatar.
