So.... you think inviting a moral debate should get a thread shut down? You don't want anyone talking about what *you* find offensive. So you want to censor what you morally disagree with and I am a "Big Brother" Irony?
Honestly, I have no power to do so, I am not a dev nor a staff member. I was merely trying to point out that bigotry based on personal views is a harmful and offensive stance and should never be acceptred in any community. Claiming your morals are superior and anyone else who has different morals is evil and wrong or at least should deny the right to defend themselves, or indeed even mention it....
Wow.
You clearly did not read or understand what I posted. Your responses make no sense whatsoever.

Truth be told, we shouldn't even be having this discussion if we were really all "adults." Especially men. Most men are just boys who never grew up. I speak from personal experience. I didn't truly grow up until 2 years ago and I'm now 44. Our society is ruled by boys in the guise of men with no courage to stand up and do what's right. Sorry if this isn't your politically correct fare. I speak the truth and have no fear in telling it like it is.
I have to agree with you on this point tomjscott. I am 36 myself.
My point in making my first comment was to point out that concepts of "Family acceptable" is not a term that everyone can agree on. People are all raised differently and different things are acceptable in different families.
Thanks. I hope I didn't sound like I was attacking you. That's why I put in the LOL. Anyway, that's just not a helpful question and there really is no perfect answer. The fact that we might have vastly different views on what is family friendly just speaks volumes of how bad our society really is right now. If we were to rate the game then I'd say it should be a PG at worst rating.

reiterated: it isn't necessarily the discussion of comparative morals, or the presence/absence of sex and/or violence
It's the discussion of: what level is acceptable? Where? Would you buy mature products? What do you consider "the line" that shouldn't be crossed to be? How can it be handled reponsibly?
It isn't "what is good and evil?", that's the alignment discussion It isn't "what is mature content?", that's a legality
It's: Would you buy it, why or why not? Where do you want the line drawn? How can we handle this with grace and tact?
If you don't want it, say so, and say that you morally object and that you don't think it can be handled with grace and tact and then allow others the same rights you have just been given, that being, the right to voice an opinion.
Besides, it's not like just *one* of us gets to talk. All of us can post. No need to deny someone else out of fear you will not be heard.
Now if it's only your voice that you think has a right to be heard....mmmm... to paraphrase: "those who would remove the rights of others deserve naught but to have their own removed."

F-the diabetes and eat that GD cake! (do it while playing AD&D, and recieving a massage from an attractive skilled professional and the world could end)

Hey all, it's your friendly neighborhood VCL stepping in. Just a quick reminder to try and keep things on-topic to the discussion - which is, admittedly a tricky thing to do sometimes on topics like morals, ethics, what is or isn't adult, etc. These threads are always tricky to manage, but I'm going to keep an eye on it and see if we can't keep this one alive. A few guides: Try to remember to reply to the POINTS that others are making, and not to the posters themselves. These are the kinds of threads where people are sharing very personal points of view, and we all need to be careful to ~challenge~ those points, instead of attacking them. Rule of thumb: If you feel you have to reply RIGHT NOW because you read something that seems absolutely incredulous to you? Take a break - go get a cold beverage of choice, and think for a bit before posting. If the thread stays on-topic I'll work to keep it open.

I thought you were until I got to the lol then I knew it was all good.
I would be totally find with a PG rating for the core game. Then if they wanted to bring out a BoVD like they did for 3.X that approaches the more "difficult" subjects in an intelligent manner for folks who want that.

I believe I answered the question just fine. And I am not here to supress anyone's opinion. So stop trying to supress mine.

So what I'm hearing is that neither of you means to be stifling the opinions of the other.
To that end, I suggest we forgive, forget, and move back to the topic at hand.

I generally play with adults and include adult themes in game. I don't need those themes explained in my core rule books. 5th ed can stay PG 13 and let me (independantly or with optional adult themed releases) add as much adult content in as my gaming group is comfortable with.
That being said, I don't consider bare breasts or casual nudity in fantasy art work as adult only. I don't need gratuitous nudity but full expect to see my nymphs and satyrs mostly uncovered.
This.
Seconded. Though I personally feel that PG-13 would be a step up from most 4e material, which though it isn't exactly devoid of "naughty" bits is fairly tame.
Agreed.
wrecan: False, in one very important regard. The idea that only the immature would get use out of books featuring sexual content, pleasure pain, and other "illicit" material.
Had you restricted that part of your post to the "gorno" material, I might agree, but since you did not, I find the whole post lacking.
Because even the above point aside, mature content isn't just about book keeping. It's about recognizing the exisistence of evil as something both less and more than the Asmodeus model. That is, that evil also comes in the form of a family man who kills children because something is wrong in his head, or the crusader of justice who has started to overreach, becoming ever more extreme. Mature content is about the bad guys in the campaign not always being the followers of Bane, but sometimes Paladins of gods like Torm (FR).
It's also about sex. Not bared breasts for the sake of bared breasts, but a frank and open acceptance of the sexual nature of all types of animals, and how it sometimes interacts with every other aspect of life. Mature content is about not shying away from controversial subjects. If someone wants to play a character that is, or used to be, a sex worker, that is mature content. If someone wants to play a character who has left his Knightly Order because they have become extremist hypocrits, that is also mature content.
What we are asking for is for both of these broad types of mature content to be dealt with and assumed as an acceptable part of DnD.
Oh, and for the art to be a bit less white-washed and artificially tame.
More sex and gender equality and racial equality shouldn't even be an argument--it should simply be an assumption for any RPG that wants to stay relevant in the 21st century.
I could say anything in D&D is silly though, because it's a silly game and we are silly people.

I don't know who this "we" is, but I already went through the many threads started on this topic and virtually nobody is calling for that. The vast overwhelming majority of calls are for more gore and prurient content, not reasoned examination into the nature of evil and sexual taboo in a D&D campaign. You may want to ignore what was actually written in the thread to pretend that everyone is really just like you, but they're not. Most of the people are not asking for deep investigation into what it means to be evil or sexually active. At the moment, it's pretty much just you, Nani and Hexle.
I know it's the internet so anything that anybody ever says that isn't directed at you personally can still be taken completely personally and you can assume that I was only referring to you and nobody else, but that's not what I did. I never said "only the immature would get use out of books featuring sexual content, pleasure pain, and other 'illicit' material". So if that's your hangup you can go argue it with someone somewhere who actually said such a thing. Because that guy ain't me.
