For the record, while fun, I don't think this poll is all that useful for 5E since most of my answers (and I would assume the answers of many others) actually fall somewhere in between the options given or are more along the lines of "keep this, but change the presentation/execution." When I vote "good" for something, it doesn't necessarily mean I want to keep it as is, and when I vote "bad" for something, that doesn't necessarily mean I want to get rid of it altogether. I think it's more important to find out what changes and improvements can be made to a lot of these choices, and the compiled poll results won't really help with that.
i assume that at wizard of the coast they will spend a lot of time thinking and reading feedbacks (for 5th edition) if they read this poll results and are: "95% yes" and "5% no" their reaction will be something like: "we are doing this right" if results are "60% yes" and "40% no" they may think "ok, the idea it's not that bad, but we need to change something, let's investigate more"
Am I allowed to change a vote? After some deliberation, I'd like to say
FEATS (AND OTHER OPTIONS) THAT GIVES YOU STATIC +X BONUSES
are completely BAD
and LEVEL should be 1-20. of course you are!
English is not my native language, i'll try to be clear Where I don't give a clear answer (like for Feat question), feel free to not add me to the poll (or add a category, if many people agree with me) Of course all my sentences are IMHO.
As general rule, i try to interpretate your ideas when you don't give me a precise answer, if i find an ambigue answer (like: "nice idea but wrong mechanic") i just skip that, as i said at the start of this post, wizard of the coast's teams will investigate i hope also i read almost every answer, if i will find a third option that often reapeat itself, i will not proceed to add the third option, but i will update the first post including some of your general thinking (intruduce a little change in the poll may bring chaos in the thread)

There is one thing which is oddly missing. Multi-classing 3e or 4e system. I actually prefer 4e myself since 3e got out of hand and didn't add that much more diversity for all it's problems.

Please make a little description what these choices mean and refer to, or post links - I have no idea what it stands for.

i have omitted this on purpuse, because it's a very big deal, 3e multiclass was very unbalanced, 4e multiclass was very restricted, i think this question deserve is own topic

For what it is worth.
- Level
1-20, 21-30 Epic covered in a different book (ala BD&D Immortals, D&D3 epic level)
- powers
good
- vancian system
bad (but allow it for rituals)
- Class roles
good
- magic items has to be mechanically
not important
- abilities scores
good
- a lot of classes
focus on the core classes, use 1st ed as a guide.
- a lot of races
focus on the core races, use 1st ed as a guide
- ability scores for races
no preferences
- feats (and other options) that gives you static +x bonuses
I like them, but limit feat bloat
- hit points
very good
- healing surges
good, but still give clerics something to do
- defenses
Use 4e as your guide here
- skill challenges
good, but less reliance on them where role-playing should cover it.
- skills has to be
use 4e as your guide.
- normal chance to hit
at st level hitting should be at 50-75% to MISS.
- Alignment is
Fluff, but useful fluff
- Save or Die
prefer not. I have games on my shelves now that can do that.
I do not envy the tasks of the designers here.
Here is my advice as one game designer to another. There is only game 5th Edition D&D should be like and that is 5th Edition D&D (that is not a typo).

Level 1-30
Powers very good
Vancian system very bad
Class roles good Magic items has to be mechanically required I liked that the system accounted for them in the math, which helped me as a DM know what to expect out of the party. I can see that having to upgrade every 5 levels was a bit painful.
Abilities scores Good – I’d prefer every change in the score matters instead of every other one
a lot of classes very good
a lot of races very good
ability scores for races good
feats (and other options) that gives you static +x bonuses bad
hit points good
healing surges very good
defenses as AC
skill challenges good
skills has to be important
normal chance to hit 50% as now
Alignment Is fluff
Save or Die bad

Bear in mind most people on this forum are 4e players so there will some statistical skew here towards current 4e players.
