I started off with AD&D in the mid-90s (Yellow Box) and have given every edition ever since a fair chance. 3e was not well-thought and 3.5 seemed the most balanced by far, with Eberron being the shining example, although the whole Feat mechanic never sat well with me. I feel that the one that had the best mix of game balance and creative liberty was Skills and Powers, which my players and I affectionally termed AD&D 2.5. Now, 4e was indeed the simplest in terms of rules and accessibility but even the short playtest I did as DM was enough to convince me that it was not D&D. It was more of a board game with more rules than a board game needed, a fact illustrated clearly by the excellent use of abridged 4e rules for the D&D Board Games. However, RPGs are NOT board games, much as I enjoy both. I am looking forward to a new edition which will also appeal to players of my generation and think that it is an excellent initiative to include the prospective players into the design debate.

While I'm personally against jumping through to the next Edition arbitrarily like this, one thing I want to point out is not to underestimate the play value of miniatures. One person might think, "Oh they're just props, we don't need them because the players that are introduced with them don't belong in the game anyway."
One thing that will kill D&D is catering to elitists like that. Not everyone who loves this game is a brilliant storyteller who can evoke and immerse people without any help whatsoever.
If you listen to anyone who tells you that you don't have to support a miniatures system, you'll lose the players who get left behind. Of course, some players won't care because that's not the crowd they want.
The same people who complain that 4E was too simple are the same people who want to go back to the Stone Age when you couldn't introduce people to the game.

I have been playing D&D since 1981. I have always been able to find something I liked in each edition. I am sorry to say that 4th Edition seemed to be trying to do too many things at the same time. It was a Miniature Game, a Board Game, a Card Game, a Power Game, and at the very end, it was a RPG . The Character Creation was a nightmare as one jumped from section to section and back again in an effort to create what was designed for a computer.

I do like the way that encounters are built with the purchase pool. I am looking forward to seeing how D&D adapts and creates it's newest incarnation.

The one thing that I would like to stress to the designers is this: First and foremost, D&D is a Role Playing Game. That means that people need to have the chance to use their imaginations to create the encounters that they are in. If they wanted to play a Video Game, they would not be playing D&D. I Have been a DM most of my gaming life and if people can not see what is happening in their mind, they will become bored and do something else. The maps and figures are a nice touch, but you do not and can not make the game revolve around them. They are just props to help your players visualize.

As I said earlier, I am looking forward to seeing how D&D changes, yet remains the same with this new update.

(Sixty Years old and still playing D&D)

I wrote before about online player character mediation system, misspelling "mediation" as "meditation" sorry, for I write up many back stories never used creating many character types never within your texted rules. Recently I have create another story involving modern PC in B-movies pranksters style horror show style taunting other in haunted hamlet near a gateway castle scaring each other chasing all around the adventure derelict estate as their modern technology get unseen shredded sent back into in fantasy festival setting of the hollywould prop past involving magical possibilities that D&D engage in.

From this two distinctive character types arose;

One is the godly undead priesthood interior entrapped as currency bankers pay their follower their salary in holy inside days worshipping employers for mean to buy food and shelter praying for raises in patriarchal foundation as ghostly guarding the coinage. They past casting new comers as fertility visitation as men impregnate barren female residents as eggs harvesting birth bearing immigrants as handmaidens vying as others outside their roles.

Another are the heraldry healing statuette figurine cast of for the winery cask museum of beauty. These constructs were carved by the fraternal orders endurance armored leading on the fight as moving as long they keep healing the party going on their quest. They heal by flowing elixir of fermented healing potions that heal all who drink their brew freeing them to move further on into the quest. They ere like bard-invoker sculptures traveling to expand the realm of the affixed godly undead priesthood never able to travel in the outside world house in native and visiting museums as arbor alife exhibits. These are alternative player characters armored in battle with support the fighters healed along the way. There is a problem with the fact that enemies can heal themselves in battle if they cup of o-healing cures to rise blacking the quest again. Also when they are wound they seethe out healing fluids contrapleting the battle damage in stalemate with an opponent refreshed to defends themselves all over again.

I write psychedelic sardine style so few under I've known understand my multi-layered words scripted descriptions so this a player character summery showing the for the need attributes that can be used in D&D setting.

Including dynamic player characters type such as these would be desirable within D&D fifth edition or am a lonely voice in the system or balance within the listing of combat fantasies of paper characters?

I would like to add that a yearly subscription to the D&D inside can be costly if you use the online player character feature. It will make it unaffordable to these creative types like me if you insist anybody using must pay premium prices to use a PC outside your list types.
