This weekend I was privileged to play in a D&D Next, play test.I played the Dwarf fighter in our session, and I truly like the Reaper feat, within the Slayer theme that gives damage, even when I miss. Although playing without the "Opportunity Attacks" or "Attacks of Opportunity" seem to make combat somewhat more hack and slash and less tactical. I also liked the hit die, glad to see that back. We where a little confused on the Spiritual hammer spell. It says it lasts for one min (bout 6 rounds). However the question was if the cleric dies before the hammer's duration has expired, does the hammer than expire, does it act as raised skeletons do, and attack the nearest foe, or is it there in one place with no direction and than when time is out fade? Also we took the spell to act as if the Cleric could have two attacks, or attack (with the hammer) and heal. Is this how it was meant to be? I'm interested in any and all responses/answers.

May 30- 2012 DM: Molkor 06 Player’s: Zerlin971, Grifforly, Tohido, Pawky, and Marionette-Kun A brief summery of our fist playtest session First, let me say that it has been a long time my group has played a game of D&D. This might be the cause of the slightly odd behavior of my players. Not all of us were well acquainted with the 3rd, and so there was some confusion by the seeming mix of 3rd, and 4th edition, but nothing to serious. We did like the way magic worked, the act of preparing some spells, and simply casting other, this gave the wizard, and other spell casters a lot of flexibility. Also we found that attacks from the fighter, and other class’s were vary smooth. We all were however a little disturbed by the lack of a skill list, it was actually amazing how off putting this was. At any rate on ward. After an offal lot of silliness (you don’t want any details). We finally arrived at the kobold section of the map. The rogue attempted to sneak his way to the kobolds, in a normal check he would have failed, but the kobold’s all of them rolled equally as bad, and had negatives to the opposed check. This means that the entire party was able to get quit close, and pull off a perfect surprise round, it was here we noticed that there are no rules for charging. “I just said more then 10’ within your speed, +1 to the attack“. the attack was so perfect that I decreed that the remaining kobold’s needed to make a, moral check, no rules for this ether. “had a contest vs. the kobold’s charisma +1 for each remaining kobold, and the player with the highest intimidate”. the hero’s won (the fighter got a +5 to the roll by lifting the body of a fallen kobold, and brandishing it as if to use it as a weapon), but only one kobold was able to escape. My party… oh my party decided that sense the kobold will summon reinforcements, that they would lay in ambush for the hapless monsters. When the kobold force arrived, consisting of 12 normal kobolds, 4 elite kobolds, and 1 kobold chieftain, (I had thought that the size, of the force might make the party reconsider and run, or at least give my party a hard time) my party was ready for them. They had several ranged attack ready for them, killing two before the monsters are even on the map. The first round was devastating, the two fighters we had, had planed for this by taking up positions behind and slightly above the entrance to the cave. One fighter killing an elite outright, and the other forcibly pinning the chieftain to the ground, no rule‘s for grappling, I had the chieftain roll a reflex saving throw, witch he failed, and he lost the strength vs. strength contest. (I should also mention that the fighter brought an almost dead kobold from the first fight along with him, he “accidentally” killed him on the dropdown, I declared him squishy) after a more or less normal, but still disastrous round, another elite, and two normal dead, it was again the fighters turn. He then took intestines from the dead “squishy” kobold, and used them to strangle the chieftain, I it should not have worked I gave them (the intestines)a 50% chance to brake and they never did. I gave the chief desperate strength, and he could not get away. “I had a CON vs. STR contest to see if the kobold could resist full damage, but he failed that to. At this point the lesser kobold needed to make a moral check, but they never got to make. For the wizard cast sleep causing all for them to fall asleep. After that it was all over. The kobold were dead or dieing, and it was nearly time for the session to end. About the game, so far we like most of it we have not done enough testing to make an infrmed dection about the game, exept one thing when the compleat game is relessed don’t call it “D&D next” that’s a dumb name, just call it 5th edition. I look forword to the our next session, and the thing you want us to play test. End Report

Well, the game was nice for 2 players, but I don't know how would I play the game with 4 people. With 4 people it starts to resemble more a board game and less Magic and Chess.
