I think it's a ridiculous idea to restat all the old minis, reason being that these creatures are WAY too simple to incorporate that many different minis, on top of the fact that it would take forever, alienate new customers, and cost more in R&D than it could ever possibly make back. The best thing they can do is say, "Hey, you have an elf with a bow? You can use him as an Elf Archer," boom, over, everyone's happy. Old timers still have to buy the packs to get the new minis and paintjobs along with the new tiles and cards but can still use their old minis or even metal ones, and the new guys don't have to worry about collecting twenty sets of stuff you can only find on Ebay.

I see great potential in creating a great variety of different creatures with a sleuth of abilities. And if this potential is not realized, this game is missing out.

Geez.. and here I thought the high count of replies meant this thread was already stuffed with custom stats for old minis. I'm a casual boardgamer who enjoys all the D&D adventure boardgames. I've bought a truckload of prepaints to replace those in the game as well as many more which I've made custom cards for. The stats for these games are so spartan that it really is very easy to make customs. I don't think we need to restat ALL the old minis, just sets of 12 minis that belong to a theme. I've made unit cards for the following factions: - Undead (using a subset of minis that come with Castle Ravenloft) - Heroine (all female minis, the high Gold units are a Unicorn and an Angel of Blades) - Reptile (lizardfolk, naga, marilith, drakkoth, black dragon) Work in progress: - Aberrant (using a subset of minis that come with Wrath of Ashardalon) The Action deck is the slightly more difficult aspect to create and balance but a coherent theme makes the job easier.

After playing, the action deck is meaningful enough and the creatures generic enough that I think they could release a list of equivalents or put out a select number of restats (12? 50?) and people would still need to buy the game while still making old-timers feel like they were not getting ignored.
Again, there is no need to rush the restats, let the game first build momentum, see what sort of crowd it entices, build up a healthy meta (with equivalencies) and then start rolling them out.
This.
i'd like to see a game have a healthy start with a growing player base on a level playing field, that doesn't jump the singles cost on the secondary market. Than to unbalance the the game and turning away the casual player outright, knowing that he has no shot because he's had none of the previous D&D minis set.
and for the record, i'm sure that there will be restats in some form (look at the examples for minis already provided!) Star26

I think a basic translation matrix should be used for any "restats". Using the 12 mini themes as a guide. WotC can, as a "continuing update", print generalized, themed, action decks thereby generating repeat income. and it would be cool to see Undead and Red Wizards of Thay as themed groups.

well some interesting points here by various members of the community.
Restats?
First off I would like to see equivalencies. At some point. No rush. Key is just to get the game off the ground.
Second, yes I would like some restats but done in the correct manner. Just toss the old guard a wee bone, nothing more. Roll out something like this: the stores used to get monthly prize packs with repaints, maps, templates etc. Start up a program like this, though include one restat, yes just one (obviously start with the best and favourites, sure its objective but there are some clear winners). Also include a token to represent that figure for players who do not own the ancient plastic themselves. So everyone can use the cool "new" fig whether they have the actual mini or not.
Sure perhaps people will not want to see a pog on the board but I think it is a fair trade and I know for my community I would be happy to bring any older figs that people want to use (I would rather see a Red Wizard on the board than a token of one too).
Again just one a month, nothing too heavy. Fair is fair.
My 2 coppers.

I think it is unrealistic to expect R&D to expend considerable resources to restat minis from a line of products that are no longer sold, and by definition cannot generate revenue. However, I do see a benefit to providing a deck of cards to turn each of the D&D Adventure Series board games into an expansion for this game (much as the survey indicates they intend to do vice-versa by including D&D Adventure Series Monster cards in the new product). This serves as a driver for sales on an actually existing revenue stream, and also cross-polinates product lines (growing customers for both lines). I love that this new product is a three-for-one. You get a new game in and of itself, you get minis for your D&D proper games, and you get an expansion for Ravenloft, Ashardalon, etc. I won't be surprised to see a deck of cards for purchase that, when combined with the appropriate D&D Adventure Series board game, act as an expansion to the skirmish game, and I look forward to buying it.

Most board games are occasional treats. Only a few (Chess, GO, DDM) are deep enough to become intense hobbies/obsessions, like Magic is. This new game, promising as it is, won't attain 'obsession' status until/unless there are enough figures to produce sufficient depth and variety in play. It might die in the meantime, as other miniature games have.
It might be a smart move to front-load the game with a bunch of stats and/or equivalents for existing figures. This would give people a taste of the eventual depth of the game, even if they need to use tokens until the new minis come out.
