(con't) I think that the game does need to reward both good Character Building AND good Party Building. I mean, it is fun sometimes to make a special group that breaks from the norm, but part of the reason that is fun is because it does in fact make the whole concept more challenging. A group of all fighters is great in straight combat, but the lack of the other 3 archetypes makes it harder to avoid traps, handle swarms, counter magic, and heal magically, as well as repel undead. A party of all...

I love playing clerics, but I also like the option of DMing a world inspired by Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones - both settings with lower magic and less healing. Just as Mike Mearls likes to run an all day castle siege, and Chris Perkins a new campaign with lots of political intrigue, I think the basic rules should allow for an easy to use option for non-magical, or more rare, or slower forms of healing. Keep up the good work, Mike - and thanks as always for listening!

I see worries that tracking expertise over the course of a long round could pull players out of the story.
You could represent expertise dice WITH ACTUAL DICE.
If you have 5d6 in XD, then stack 5 six-siders in front of you at the start of your turn. If you use 2 on attack, they go into the center of the table. You can then use the remaining 3 on parrying, attacks of opportunity, etc.
This prevents the need to track anything in your head.

You could split XD into Expertise Dice and Damage Dice.
When a player gains an XD according to currently rules, give fighters the choice to gain a "Damage Die" instead, that adds to every attack. Then get rid of Deadly Strike. This will let players differentiate between "Simple Fighter" and a fighter with a variety of combat options.
Alternatively, replace XD with "Action Points", but still give fighters the choice between "one action point" and "one damage die" at key levels. Then,...

I disagree with the cause, I_Smile_Alot. What you right is the story of a company that disregards its fan base because they don't care. I've never seen that, and I've had enough interactions with Wizards to think I would have seen that if it were true. Everyone I meet is incredibly caring of gamers and of the industry. The problem is at the business level - not Hasbro (Hasbro isn't involved in daily operations), but business skills like project management. Paolo's quote, for example, indicates a...

I don't think the belief whether they will put out more material or not really matters. Someone decided to disable the ability to share files among VT users without really explaining why. It didn't happen on it's own, but it DID increase the complexity for new users, making it likely that new people would get frustrated and stop using the VT. The main community chat doesn't have an inactivity timer from what I am told, but the VT Beta chat does. Us regular users couldn't be in there to help new...

This is... very awesome. I like the idea of moves you activate when needed. You don't necessarily have to risk wasting a daily power when you might miss, you can just follow up a successful strike with an opportunistic combo. It also clearly separates the fighter's fighting mechanic from the wizard's casting mechanic, which is always activated daily-power style (with a few exceptions, like Feather Fall).

"We thought about casting minor spells as the kind of thing a wizard might use around a laboratory that also happened to be useful in a fight. For example, a cantrip used to ignite a torch could also burn a goblin. At the last minute, however, we decided that trying to make that design work would take too long to hit this playtest." - M.Mearls
This is what I expect from DnDNext. Original ideas that may or may not work, but sound awesome. Give us the chance to playtest it and find out if...
