About This Group
It has been 500 years since the disastrous Cordova Event. Most of the old gods have perished and many of those that remain are only shadows of divinity, serving the few remaining greater gods.
Magic has vastly changed. When the Cordova Event destroyed the the world, the very Laws of Magic were broken. All spells, incantations, and other casting methods became useless. Magic items created before the Spell Plague were largely unaffected, but the art of making magic items has almost disappeared as well.
All the magic that was bound by the structure and laws that the gods set down was dispersed. Thus, magic is more prominent, but it is wild and un-tamed. Vast floating mountains drift across the sky. Magical storms burst apart the landscape, then vanish as quickly as they appeared. Primordial powers, strange beings, and powers both angelic and demonic play a greater part in this changed world.
Despite the fact that the air thrums with magic, very few mortals approach the power of the wizards and clerics of the past. They may perform some spell, rituals, and healing, but very few natives of the mortal realms can cast more than a few rituals, let alone even approach the legendary status of the heroes and villains of the last age. Dragons, elementals, and other creatures and monsters who have a natural connection to the flow of magic have retained their powers, or have seem them increase! The Eladrin and other fey, as well as natives of the ShadowDark, have also mastered the new, wilder forms of magic. And the relentless undead have spent the last centuries re-learning and adjusing to this new art and are regaining their former power.
But the mortal races of men, elves, dwarves, and the rest have yet to unravel the secrets of magic. Their larger nations have crumbled without magic to hold them together. Civilization has shrunk to smaller “points of light” amid the darker world as the mortals huddle together for security. They have entered a cautious age, unable to rely on their heroes, but also without their worst villains.
However, that is all about to change…
