Much as in the previous campaign, I am seriously considering wrapping into the advancement of the characters the idea of iconic weapons. This reflects some strong themes in we see in mythology - the most popular being perhaps Thor`s hammer or Zeus` lightning bolt.
Like what Malindle suggested for the character`s mounts, these weapons (or other magic items) could almost be characters unto themselves. I think I'd want to work with each player to decide how they envision the development of their godhood.
Also, I feel a bit inspired by the Sandman graphic novels, where he speaks of binding up a portion of his godly power into his artifacts. I like this idea, and think it could be expressed well through the bound item rules for wizards, only applying to the characters' domain powers and spells and being able to be applied to a wider variety of objects. What do you think?

Most assuredly. The iconic artifact is, well, iconic. It would also open up story hooks, as well as points of contention should they be stolen. I was planning on using a sword of some kind, because unlike most weapons, swords were never designed as tools originally. How to incorporate them into the portfolios is somewhat more of a challenge though. I'm also somewhat leery of intelligent items, but they could have their own powers?

I'm not entirely behind this idea, but I'm not really against it either. I suppose what I'm thinking of is that some deities might not lend themselves very well to weapons. Of course if you were thinking of opening it up to more items than just the ones listed right now for Wizards that would probably help things.
For instance Aphrodite had her girdle, Jesus had the holy grail, and the falcon cloak of Freya. Actually the falcon cloak would be pretty cool, it allows you to turn into a falcon and fly around.
Also it might be good to remember that some gods wouldn't want to put their power into an item. These might be gods who don't want to risk a part of their power being stolen and them being weakened by it (why hello Sauron!), or gods who simply don't see the need to increase their power that way.
It might be fun to make the iconic items things that level as we want, and the items level determines how much extra power we get for our domain powers. So one person could want a powerful item, one that allowed them to use their domain powers three times more than usual, but if it got taken away they'd only be able to use domain powers once a day. Or another person could have a relatively weak item which granted them only a little extra power, but they wouldn't be really affected if it was lost.

I like the idea of expanding the selection of items to beyond that of weapons - it definitely fits that some deities wouldn't choose a tool of violence to invest their power in.
I'm not sure I'm on the same page about the leveled items though - at the lower point wouldn't you be just weilding a plain old magic item? Not to mention that would be a bit more complexity to track as well. Pathfinder is coming out with a campaign handbook in April though, and I think it may be fun to look at the additional systems available as options.

Definitely needs to be expanded beyond weapons, god of war wants a powerful sword, god of the hearth wants a magic, food producing cauldron. We could treat them like Wizard bonded items? Be able to imbue them with magic as if we had the feats for low costs (normal half prices for crafting items on your own) and perhaps allow for out of the ordinary powers on the items. Swords that can store spells, or add a defense bonus, Rings that boost ability scores, etc.
