The spiral staircase ends in a chamber, descending no farther. You see a dank, gloomy chamber layered in shadows. Candle sconces provide flickering light. One section is closed off behind bars and holds several slumped humanoid forms, some of which are obviously dead.

The heroes find only death at the bottom of the spiral staircase. The enemies in the room had heard the battle with the tembo and were waiting for the the groups arrival. Two belgoi hunters, a ssuran, black reaver zombies, and salt zombies attack the group with mind altering summons and bursts of shadow. The room is the place where Yarnath keeps his test subjects guarded by the belgoi and ssuran. Inside a small prison cell is found a soon-to-be-victim, the elf ranger Mike.



After defeating these creatures (the ssuran from the slingshot of Thoril Grok) and liberating Mike, the heroes see only one way to the next level: a 25 foot pit falling into darkness.
