HULK SMASH!
 Last night a group of us from Brookhurst Hobbies went to the Block to watch Avengers. DM John had created an Avengerer's Adventure for B-List heros.  But before we started the game, it was time for some Cos Play Photos with Mouse! Dude on left is Hawkeye. Respect!   Scottie had to get into this picture--just too awesome not to!   Mouse bringing the Metal Edge to this great photo!  This is the shot when Cap't broke his strap! A weakness that I do not has been exploited enough in the comics!  So once that was out of the way, we could get our game on! Unlike most line ups, AMC @ The Block let us in 4 hours early--this was great because it allowed us to 1. Play indoors in the warm, 2. Purchase all you can eat Popcorn & Soda's and take full advantage, 3. Interact with just about everyone walknig...

This post is a continuation at what D&D Next Public Play should look like--and there has been a real increase in conversation regarding this topic in the last few weeks.
 One of the real stars in this area is Chris Tulach who was intereviewed on the Tome Show. Chris runs WotC's Organized Play programs [D&D Lair Assault and D&D Encounters], Convention programs [Open Beta Test, D&D Delve, and D&D Championship] as well as represents WotC in Community Organized Play [Living Forgotten Realms, Living Devine, and Ashes of Athas]. He was also involved in the RPGA & provides great insight in how WotC currently sees that. Basically, when discussing what play styles should be supported & how Public play relates Chris is the MAN. He also thinks DMing is Performance Art--lots of fascinating...

I have not been participating much in the D&D Next converations--mostly because I am not interested in Mechanics [which is where I see most of the conversations focused]. My favorite D&D Next topic is the Three Pilliars [Combat, Investigation, & Interaction] which I think is a great way to look a the game. I like the fact that WotC is looking for fan input into the process of improving the worlds greatest game--so this is my first contribution to that conversation.
I generally see the Play Style conversations divided into three categories--Home Play, Store Play, and Convention Play. I would like D&D Next to add a new category--Public Play. This is the first in a series of posts I plan to make on what Public Play is, why it is different from other styles of play, how D&D Next can provide...

So the video camera had no power--I had to run video from my iPhone.

 For the Premier of Wrath of the Titans, Scott ran an adventure while we were waiting in line! Talk about Public Play! I have uploaded his adventure to Google Docs Scott is a great DM & he this adventure was some of his best work--Movie Tie in, crazy mecahnics & absolute awesomeness were all on the menu.  Syd was there--she was playing a very teleporty Eladrin Swordmage. Mouse was also in the house playing a Half-Orc Beserker  Mouse had taken his wife to Hunger Games before the game so he was ready to roll!  T-Hamas showed up and played some Minions during the first hour or so.  Jessie and John were there--both had wildly multiclassed characters--John's was a Vampire Sorcerer and Jessie had some kind of Ranger Assasin--both strikers doing a ton of damage.  The owned their side of the table.... |
