Lair Assault: Talon of Umberlee--First Attempt

    Saturday, December 24, 2011, 10:14 AM

a group of guys from my Encounters group headed over to John's house where DM Jace ran the second Lair Assault for us--I have a video actual play podcast up.

Scott and Curtis were there. Our Team Design plan was Genasi Disco Healers--Scott ignored this & had a Human Psion. Curtis had a Earth Genasi Warlord.

Chase & Washington Dave were there. Chase built both of their characters--a fighter & a ranged striker. Chase also leveled up his encounters character Mal, a human rogue for Thomas.

This party composition was medium--clearly we can do better--not enough movement killed us on our first attempt as is obvious by the Actual Play Video--we got bogged down early and never really had a chance.

I had plenty of space to run Hechtoo-O, the Water Genasi Swordmage Ardent. A great character that worked well, but died in the first round--all attacks are against AC & I did not optimize that enough--something I will be corrected for next time.

I also need more strike back powers.

I was sitting next to Thomas who also had enough space--even though he rolled nothing but ones. All night. For a striker this means frustration.

The Map for this Lair Assualt is the greatest thing I have ever seen--just flat out brilliant and beautiful. One of the greatest maps ever.

    A really fun night.

    D&D Encounters Season 7 Session 5

    Thursday, December 22, 2011, 12:57 AM

DM David sets the bar very high for Mini of the Season with this playful bear figure.

I thought that this week was one of the best Encounters I have seen--the playful nature, the interesting threat mechanic, the oppurtunities for role play, and etc. all combined for a very memorable session.
I had a good dice Bee Theme selected for my Dice which played nicely into the Honey theme of the Encounter.

The shop was once again very crowded.

And the Candy Selection ran low early--it was a great selection, however!

This was likely the first time I had played on Lower table in a long time & being next to Curtis & Scott made it even more fun.

Good dice rolls all the way around the table this week.

    D&D Encounters Season 7 Session 4

    Thursday, December 15, 2011, 8:52 AM

Another great week at Brookhurst Hobbies.

We started at Alerto's and arrived almost on time.

We were playing in the front room this week--there were 31 people on three tables. That is 28 total players, seven per table--we could run 5 tables of five and one table of six if we had enough space & it would likely be more fun--the crowd, noise, and chaos made filming difficult. I did get some tape of DM David ruling the Rhyme:

I also wanted to draw attention to the Fantastic, Fabulous Furry Fountain of Fairy defensive position--the red is fountain of flame, the green is some druid healing patch, the goodberry bushes are some awesome temp hitpoint--for the second time this season we laid down one of these patches and swarmed in. It was awesome.

Thomas, Chase, and Brian were in strong form.

DM David appears to be having a lot of fun.

Jack is wearing his silly hat.

A lot of new guys has joined this season--I have not gotten to know them all that.

You can see how crowded it is at the tables.

The best moment of the night was when I rolled a crit on a daily.

Again, I rolled a CRIT on a daily!

    Evolution--Balfort the Fat!

    Monday, December 12, 2011, 3:52 PM

Jack, Kate, and I sat down for some more Evolution.

We are currently in the dungeon crawl section of the first 4E module--it really is not all that good, but something that I think I should play through just to really understand--someone told me that each encounter is designed to showcase some aspect of the system.

I am really not sure I get that at all--but the kids had a really good Sunday afternoon. We had not sat down and played together in a while.

Jack is really becoming a strong player & Kate is having fun with the math & reading parts which makes me very happy.

Cody got some time in behind the screen.

The kids have fun playing & everyone rolled very well--we did not get into to much role playing but ideally we can increase that for next week.

    Bake--Meeting with Meristethan

    Saturday, December 10, 2011, 3:13 PM

Another great week in Vandal's Garage playing D&D!

Our Bake campaign is into its second year & things are really starting to roll.

The table is very well organized at this point.

DM James is really spinning a very fun yarn.

Started exploring a Drow Tomb--of course, I opened the casket & Mummy's attacked!

Tough battle but a lot of fun & some very good role playing after the combat that taught us more about the adventure then we had seen in a long time.

The battle of the ugly die continues with this pink die working very well for James--Cameron had a pink sparkly one that was even worse.

    D&D Encounters Season 7 Session 3

    Thursday, December 8, 2011, 10:02 AM

Another great week at Brookhurst Hobbies!

We started at Alertos--had fantastic mexican food & then headed to the shop late.

Fashion is out of control this season with Fairy Wings, Crazy Hats, Kilts, and all other manner of madness.

The front room is very crowded with Three tables playing in a very small space.

Lots of new & returning players

Good to see Scott back this week.

And it is always great to see Rico--I have not been on his table in a long time--I may need to switch it up next week.

We ran tape & uploaded actual play footage

Brian was in excellent form this week.

Team Mini's are still a chaotic mess--but we did get some Reaper familiar mini's this week which we can start painting & should see some improvement by next week.

Early combat was fairly light this week--fun and playful, unlike last weeks desperation fight!

We had house ruled Fairy Rule #3--Floor Dice Count for this week.

Not a lot of Crit's but Thomas was all over the place with Crits & Fumbles coming back to back!
