I am trying to figure out what I want to do for this group, I am at a crossroads of sorts and I am not sure the direction I want to go. My first instinct is to end it right now and part ways. It is hard to put down exactly where I am at on this, last week I feel like I cheated everyone and myself on trying to put an end to the game.

You should always trust your first instinct

The concept of being trapped in the shadowfell was interesting, Having Ronin back was a perk because while there had been a plan of removing him from the game originally bringing him back was cool but was a bit wasted in the fact that Kat was not there to play Luusi. The emotional impact was not there and that frustraited me to no end, this is not me saying I was mad Kat was not there, it is more of saying I planned ...

It is the end, after nearly 1 year the first D&D campaign I ran longer than a few games has, or will be coming to an end.

April 7th will be the final game and I will try and tie up some loose ends, to that end I will start the end on March 24th for those who can make it, the survivors will then be at the end on the 7th.

My thoughts are pretty clear on this, there were some things that definately pushed me to make this choice and they came from all different directions. It will give me a chance to refocus on other things after this.

This will be a big event to be sure and I am not going to guarrentee the party makes it to the 7th.

A Preface that is really an Afterthought: I wrote this just to get my mind clear on my D&D campaign and it turned into a bit more than just that. After reading through it again I noticed it had a lot of my thoughts about what went into my decision for wanting to end my D&D campaign. I think it was therapeutic and I probably should write more, something I really want to do but fear I am not good at it.

It was bound to happen at some point and I dreaded it like it would be the end of the world, and really, it kind of is.  I lost the desire to continue dungeon mastering my current D&D campaign that gets run at the game store I work at part-time. This is going to upset a few people; it upsets me since I had some cool ideas for the future.

When did I realize that I had these thoughts?

[quote]The party travels north up the Nentir back towards Fallcrest and beyond that north, along the way they keep catching glimpses of what looks like Lizardfolk along the banks of the river. The Witchlight Fens are home to several tribes, and many travelers have been caught by surprise and gone missing while traveling though these parts.

The party booked passage with a group of halfling river merchents and were acting as crew and body guards to the riverboat. As the days went on they were nearing the edge of the fens when suddenly a large roar filled the air and a dark shadow loomed above them, in the sky a black dragon streaked at the boat, it's acid breath unleashing a torrent of destruction as it ate at the wood frame.

Well that could have happened but instead we had last min...

Welcome to a holiday special that is entirely inspired by that evil creature known as the Unicorn.

From the large ranches just outside Fallcrest is the well known Radiant Farms run by the clergy of the church of the sun god Pelor himself.

At Radiant Farms they go to great lengths to ensure you know they use every part of the unicorn. Nothing goes to waste to seal in that magical goodness, unlike their competitors from the lowers Quays.

As one customer noted on the company website.

"What the freak does an evil bard know about cannin up deadly Unicorns? I will tell ya! absolutely nuttin!" - Geoffrey

Radiant Farms also does not add artificial unicorn horns. No sir, they use only the 100% kind unlike our competitors who round up scores of normal horses with fake wooden horns.

Our freshly packed ...

Recap: The group had completed a battle at the gates of Gardmore Abbey and Ronin the party leader went off to find Luusi. She made demands that Ren admit to his lies he spread following a past incident. While looking for a Unicorn her and Ronin discover what appeared to be an old woman which turned out to be Rort the Tombripper from Kiris Dahn. When he discovered they no longer possessed Nightbringer he teleported them to an unknown location.

The rest of the party sat near the Abbey waiting impatiently for Luusi and Ronin's return. Several Worg riders arrive and inform the group their friends are held captive and if they give over Nightbringer they will take them to them and set them free. No dice and the party refuses even with the threat of their friends loosing their lives. The lead rider...

It has been a fun few days watching the response to this past game session, and with this coming weekends session some of the plots will come to an end. Namely Nightbringer, at least for this tier.

Really when Nightbringer came into the campaign it was hidden from the group for about two months. It was a merging of ideas, Rob had a character who had the a life drinker sword and then Savannah's character took it. At one point during the end of the Reaver's of Harkenwold adventure I introduced a scene where the cultists were trying to summon an exarch of the chained god Tharizdun. That was thwarted by Geoffrey and Throm's actions. This is when Nightbringer was introduced.

Taking elements from Mark of Nerath I have the plot to bring Orcus back with the Raven Queen working to stop it, all the...

The price to enter a book and some dice...

So a while back I changed how I was handling how I ran my game. On our old forums I chose to make a new thread after hitting 750 posts. I started the thread out by "Same Campaign: Different Rules" it was here that I laid out the following (and more expanded) "Price to Play" rules.

  1. Book Ownership for Characters Played.
    • All current characters are exempt from this rule.
      • example: If Ronin dies any new character Rob makes he will need to own a physical copy of the book for the character he wishes to make.
    • I want players to take an active role in character creation which most of you do already and that is great.
    • I need this to be taught out to any new players or current players so everyone understands character creation rules, leveling

Director's Commentary:

I started this type of posting with new players entering the game and I continue it here. I hate introducing new players, hated it with Adam. It was tough with Marion and David. Nick showed up at the store as I was printing up a needed item for the game and he asked Josh about ongoing D&D games.

This time I took it by the Dragon horns and introduced him as a someone Lord Pradig wanted you all to have with.

Deleted Scenes:

  • Luusi was going to see a vision of Geoffrey transform into this elemental being. Nixed it.
  • Geoffrey was going to beg for help then be devoured.
    • Commentary: I chose to suggest that Nightbringer was always impersonating Geoffrey.
  • Geoffrey mystery was going to be introduced.
    • It still might as I flesh it out more. HINT: Two sides of every coin.
