I like being creative. I am even a fan of some "over the top" concepts. However, just like in a movie, special effects can be overdone; likewise, special effects can't always compensate for a bad movie. One of the main reasons I cannot take modern horror movies seriously is because they too often spray gore and blood around and hope the audience won't notice that the movie is terrible. In contrast, I don't believe Hitchcock ever actually showed a person being murdered in his movies; yet,...

Quite literally all of those have happened in my groups campaigns... Probably the most over the top thing that has happened was a character in a campaign became the avatar of Olidammara, after being given a deck of chaos which was used to choose which of the party members would ultimately be the champion. The characters then meet this character again some years later in the next campaign and find that the character has transported to the Dark Sun campaign setting where he then split in 5 parts...

This is... very awesome. I like the idea of moves you activate when needed. You don't necessarily have to risk wasting a daily power when you might miss, you can just follow up a successful strike with an opportunistic combo. It also clearly separates the fighter's fighting mechanic from the wizard's casting mechanic, which is always activated daily-power style (with a few exceptions, like Feather Fall).

"We thought about casting minor spells as the kind of thing a wizard might use around a laboratory that also happened to be useful in a fight. For example, a cantrip used to ignite a torch could also burn a goblin. At the last minute, however, we decided that trying to make that design work would take too long to hit this playtest." - M.Mearls
This is what I expect from DnDNext. Original ideas that may or may not work, but sound awesome. Give us the chance to playtest it and find out if...

Happy I can be of help, my fellow mapper! :) Generally, I'd suggest using a different forrest-technique. I find the one used by pasis jarring at times, not bad per say, but... it's more obvious. I use my custom brush in Photoshop with the following properties: Pattern Stamp Tool (using a forest texture appropirate, I could send you mine if you wanted), diameter 1 to 3 px. depending on mapsize. Deactivated Shape Dynamics (except when I do fine work with my Wacom), Scattering options: Scatter set to maximum, "Both Axes" is activated, count is between 3 and 8, COunt Jitter 0. No other options active. Yields good forests, at least in my opinion. The result should be similar to the forests you see on my maps. Also a suggestion of mine is a mountain-technique I tend to use to increase realism. On the two "highest" layers, use a small and very hard brush with the mountain texture and draw some sharp but light lines away from the mountaintops downhill. If you do it light enough and in good measure, you'll arrive at a more "craggy" look, which can be nice at times. Well, that's my "tweaks" to the Pasis tut so far. Hope you'll find it useful! See you around Dargurd! Oh, also, I added you to my friend list :)

Hi there Dargurd! Looking good so far! If you want, three small nitpicks: 1.) The sea in the lower part of the map has no drain-river, which is a bit weird (river police incoming! ;) ). 2.) The rivers begin a bit abruptly, maybe make use of a smaller brush to draw their beginning flows coming together and erase them with 20% opacity until it looks natural. 3.) Maybe add a few snowcaps to the mountains. Mind you, all of the above are rather nitpicks and not big criticisms, I like the style. Might the base for your style be the tutorial by a certain Pasis? :)

Thanks a lot - I'm glad I'm not the only one who tries to keep some perspective!
