Ruins of Karesta - 17 D
These are lands of remembrance, a place where the greatest battles of the 5th war took place. Both Phyrexia and the Coalition have erected monuments amongst the islands, and to hold these sites where Karesta once stood brings with it a boost for the morale of all fighting upon Dominaria. On the north eastern edge sits the Monument of Tevish Szat, a testament to his great victory over the mightiest Coalition force of the time. Since then, the place has become a shrine for aspiring commanders to pay homage to the warriors of old – and proclaim the inevitability of the Will of Yawgmoth. Upon this mountainous island runs a ravine filled with sun bleached bones of the fallen. On either side of the ravine’s opening is a massive stone havoc demon, claws raised in victory. Each statue crawls with graven demonic runes that generate an aura of revulsion. Within their claws hang stone heads of the hydra known as Ulasht, from these decapitated gaping maws, bright green flames burn continuously to fill the air with a noxious sulphuric smoke. The size and light produced from this site ensures it can be seen for miles around. Far to the south west is the Sepulchre of Karesta, created by Kelket as memorial and tomb for those who lost their lives defending Dominaria. This was once the mountain known as Rotorua, and the only one to have survived the devastation of Maroa’s eruptions when the base Karesta fell to Phyrexia. At the very bottom of Rotorua rests a small harbour, from which a stairway winds slowly up the mountain side to the sepulchre itself. Made of magically fortified sandstone blocks, the upper level completely consumes the peak of the mountain. The structure itself is a vast open temple, surrounded by elaborately decorated pillars and a heavy stone roof. In the centre, the stone that once formed the peak has been carved into an obelisk bearing the names of those lost to the many wars. To gain access to the depths of the mountain, many paths are available from the topmost temple. Brightly lit they each proceed to the core, where another wide open area presents itself – it is here where all recovered bodies of the fallen are interned. A place where healing and hope radiates from the walls itself to bolster all those within. ---------------------------------------- +1 strategy rolls upon Dominaria. Structure Descriptions |
