This is a post, and only has text because TGL figured something should be here until he got around to making something useful to disappear into irrelevance.

The appropriate term for these battles is ‘bugger’ (or yippee depending). Rather wisely, neither army wanted to go flying and sailing in gale force winds. The Coalition adopted a most amusing tactic involving hollowing out their own sandy island and using storm spirits to light the place up like a neon sign. Geth was rather keen on smashing through and crushing any resistance and defenses. Thus, he stormed the beach beneath the neon sign. This went very badly for Geth when he discovered that the defenses consisted of levitated sand over a hollow filled with things wanting to kill him. Needless to say, it was quite the slaughter. But not every battle can go so well or as clearly as the last. In the beginning, Balthor looked carefully everywhere and decided that the Ultimus must be in the lake. Then with no indications otherwise, he got himself all nice and ready and charged in. For a moment his units hesitated as there seemed to be nothing at the bottom but a large bulge - but there were more units pushing in from behind so the attack into apparently nothing continued. Much to the Ultimus’ misfortune, this forced Phyrexians directly into his concealed position. Unexpectedly finding his ambush thwarted, the Ultimus struggled to recapture the initiative as Phyrexians found themselves bolstered in their fortune. Soon enough things began dissolving into chaos, the liquid quickly became thick with plague and churning waters. Neither army could figure out quite what they were attacking. In time though, Balthor discovered himself alone within the lake and his foe outsed while he was fighting ... himself. Yet regardless, SR97 now belonged to Phyrexia. Spoiler:

In a somewhat unexpected tactic, the Coalition declined marching aggressively to war against the isolationist elves. Instead, they spent days beforehand carefully taking and assimilating the outlying elven communities; making sure to convince them of the dangers of Phyrexia (occasionally backed up with a bit of force). Thus by the time the Phelddagrif arrived at the palace itself, Kaysa had been lurking in the trees for much of the week and her constant vigilance had proved a drain upon her troops. Kaysa however mistook what the Coalition desired - she had set out a string of shiny treasure to lure in her foe. Instead of an army after treasure, she received a small force bearing a flag of surrender. They were promptly killed as soon as they entered arrow range. Not to be deterred, the hippoian elves went on the attack with the entire force instead. Protected behind a tough shield wall they advanced, their foes of course were protected by the forest canopy, thus ensuring that the first exchanges were relatively minor. As the Phelddagrif approached along the ground, his units became bogged down with druidic summoned roots and attacked by berserkers. But fortunately, his elves came prepared with short swords and spears, rapidly freeing themselves and switching to a forward infantry while the rear maintained their attacks upon the canopy bound foes. As they pressed forward, Kaysa couldn’t break the lines, and thus ordered the final charge from within the palace. Allosaurus riders and battlemages burst forth, swarming towards Phelddagrif’s line. The dinosaurs set to simply tear the elves apart.
It was quite a surprise when there turned out to be an extra 100 battlemages who ‘accidentally’ 'fell over' disrupting the charge and allowing the Coalition elves to hold firm. In addition, as Kaysa gained access to her secondary arrow stocks, she found them ruined beyond repair. Bereft of her breaking forces and humiliated by the hoodwink she slunk away - but she would not give up so easily just yet. Spoiler:

Jor approached the walls of Gamalgoth, ready for a tough fight to take the walls. With siege ladders and dragons beneath a hail of arrows he felt quite sure that nothing would be able to stand before him. Thus, he was quite surprised (and somewhat embarrassed) to subsequently discover that the gate was open. Into the seeming silent city the army marched, then without warning the city was no longer so silent. From apparently abandoned structures flew a hail of arrows, a nuisance to be sure, but not an issue alone. Yet each attempt to quell the attacks merely meant new assaults from other angles. Even then, no matter how thoroughly any of these attacks were quashed, there always seemed to be more enemies assaulting the rear distracting and drawing away forces. Increasingly, Jor was spread ever more thinly throughout the city - the small streets and difficulty to maintain communication (especially when the dragons and avens were constantly pestered by shrikes attacking from hidden positions in the towers) only making things worse. By the time the Coalition reached the Great Hall, their order and morale had been ruined. Too weakened to push through the final garrisons, Jor had to call for a retreat. Spoiler:

As the day dawned, there was peace over the swamps. Nim happily feasted on decaying flesh, neurok tried not to become that flesh, and phyrexian critters did phyrexiany things. But the peace was not to remain. Urabrask had come to visit, and he didn’t intend to leave without stopping in for cake. Mirri however had no wish to share. The throne might be uncomfortable and bony, but it was hers! Thus, she set about barricading the single openning while creating a large pit by prying into the metallic ground below. Urabrask wasn’t going to use the front door however and had decided to make his own back entrance. By peeling away at the corroded metallic shell and bombarding it with dragonbreath it proved a simple matter to melt his own doorway. Of course, using dragons as welding equipment isn’t the quietest of activities, so Mirri was not caught unawares. It was a long process, but at last, the final barriers fell and dragons swept into the throne room. Exactly as expected, bolts flew from the walls and numerous dragons fell. But parasites and chancellors had direct access behind the false walls. It didn’t take long until the crossbow wielding skirges had more pressing matters to attend to. Mirri was forced to call in the next phase premptively, at which point mortis dogs leapt down from the platforms above, tearing into dragons and those on the ‘wrong’ side of the false walls. Yet, even these proved insufficient against the full brunt of the Phyrexians. In what had proved a fatal decision, Mirri had left her zombies out hiding in the swamp to attack the rear of her foe once the battle within Ish Sah had begun. As such, the slightly superior strength of her opponents wore down the confined skirges while numbers worked against the dogs. By the time the zombies arrived, it was too late. All the same, they made a final attempt to break through, nim devourers swarming into exarch lines after Urabrask’s head. Unfortunately, they never even made it into Ish Sah. Spoiler:

In the defense of the Radix Glissa was wise to many of the potential enemy attack plans. Thus it came as no surprise to her when phoenixes swarmed toward the waiting elves with the intent of using their own deaths to cut swathes through their foes. From the upper reaches of the trees a constant stream of arrows filled the air, the number and rate of fire seeming to blot out the sky. The front line magma phoenixes found themselves becoming pin cushions well before reaching any archer concentrations. Those that did reach discovered the elves were well spread and could easily find cover amongst the copper tree growths. Ensuring these elves would have no time to return to battle, shard phoenixes and dracoplasms quickly followed. At which point they came into contact with Greenhilt trainees with painful ouchie things. Their strikes were hard, yet fast, giving just enough time for archers to find new positions elsewhere before retreating themselves. It became apparent to Bladewing that the cost of his attack was proving far too great and in any case, all he could do was chase the elves around in circles in his bid to force them into the centre. In the end, he determined it a wiser course to simply withdraw instead of wasting his force. Spoiler:

In the fair seas off the coast of Jamuraa sat Vorinclex upon a shining emerald of an island brimming with vegetation and life. A powerful wind blew the water into a froth, dragging his boats far out to sea to the very edge of their chains. Meanwhile, the Coalition under Progenitus and the Lord of Tresserhorn joint up far in distance, gathering their forces into one to better crush their opponent. Once the Coalition had formed into a single force, the order came to advance. Darting swiftly over the waves and making the most of those capable of flying in the windy weather they came across what they thought were the advance guard of Vorinclex in his boats. Closing around them like a fist, they easily crushed the few defenders - who promptly ignited all the pitch on board. Burned once, the Coalition were more cautious as they followed the chains back to the secluded island. Small glowing orbs occasionally popped above the canopy and caution went once more to the wind as units swept in to engage. Attacking from every angle the Coalition hoped to completely overwhelm their enemy. Smashing through the trees as lightning rained down from above this seemed to be a likely outcome. Yet Vorinclex would not go down easily, anglers caused many became distracted by their glowing orbs to disappear to their deaths, but there were simply more Coalitioners than anglers. Vorinclex’s forces were pushed ever tighter into the island’s centre. But the Coalition made one slight miscalculation, while they sought to tie together their opponents’ legs, this was exactly where Phyrexia wanted them to be. The sight of numerous big things doing belly flops must have been quite amusing - not so much for those underneath. Yet no matter how many were squished or eaten, there were simply more and Vorinclex had ever less room to move within. On the verge of being overwhelmed, he ordered a charge through the weakest enemy point and escaped out to sea; content in the knowledge that he at least gave worse than he got. Spoiler:
