Baros breathes a sigh of relief as he gets Talmore out of harm's way.

"Thank goodness. That beast doesn't seem the kind to rend and gnaw, but it's better we not give it a chance, hmm? We should be safe back here."

Baros promptly precedes to wince when he notices Gregor collapse to the ground. Shrugging his shoulders, he takes a few cautious steps forward, hoping the monster is too concerned to notice another rescue attempt.

"Alright. Here we go again."

MMORPGs, raking in money by the dumptruck full.  Many options, tons of fans across many audiences, massive resources allocated to development.

TTRPGs, dying product.  Squeaking out an existence that relys on low cost.  Fans fit primarily into a few small demographics.  R&D budgets small, often rushed to market and patched after deployment.

You're not really making much of an argument when you compare something to a MMORPG and assume people think that means bad.  Lets face it, they make the money, have the audience and the budget.  We here on this board are fans of TTRPGs but lets not try to pretend none of us play MMORPGs.

Given the laziness and morbid obsesity amongst D&Ders, being able to convince someone to get on their feet, do some heavy exercise, and use their words to make them be healthier must seem magical.

Sandallan and Kowin keep the creature occupied, Sandallan striking a glancing blow, while Baros drags Gregor out of harm's way.

DM Screen
Spoiler: Show
Carrion Crawler - 13/15
Talmore Paralysis - 29 minutes, 4 rounds
Gregor Paralysis - 29 minutes, 5 rounds

Now we get into Morale rolls.  The creature is badly wounded and might decide that this morning's breakfast is a bit too much trboule.  Every creature and NPC has a Morale score which is rolled at certain times, usually when the battle turns against them.  If they fail, they try to flee the battle.  The Carrion Crawler has a Morale score of 9 which will be compared to a roll of 2d6.  If that roll is higher than the creature's Morale score, it will attempt to break off combat and escape.  Some creatures, like Skeletons, have a Morale of 12, which means they never fail Morale checks.

Morale check (2d6=6)

Despite its injuries, the creature presses the attack, its tentacles lashing out at Sandallan and Kowin.
Four attacks against Sandallan (1d20=4, 1d20=15, 1d20=3, 1d20=18)
Four attacks against Kowin (1d20=12, 1d20=4, 1d20=14, 1d20=7)

Sandallan is hit twice and needs to make two saves vs paralysis.  Kowin is hit once and needs to make one save vs paralysis.  Then someone please roll initiative for Round 4!

SANDALLAN

Sandallan has completely lost it as he watched two of his newfound friends fall.  He slashes about wildly in a total panic.  Blessedly, the crawler's tentacles give Sandallan a much needed sedative.  As he slumps to the ground, paralyzed, one might alomst see a smile on his face, as he releases the care sof the world, and accepts whatever fate has in store...

OOC:
The party gets a 3 on initiative.
Sandallan rolls a 6 and a 5 on his saves.  He will be paralyzed, if the party does not both win initiative and kill the carrion crawler.
If the party wins initiative, Sandallan rolls a 3 to hit and a 2 on damage.

Oops.  Misread.  Sandallan is totally paralyzed, whether or not the party wins initiative.

Kowin

The creatures tentacle strikes Kowin but he barely notices and continues to fight.

Save vs Paralysis: 1d20=20

"
If you want Dwarf on your plate, y'll have to try harder than that!"

Kowin brings his War Axe down on the creature in an attempt to put an end to its tentacled frenzy.

Attack: 1d20+2=12
Damage: 1d8+2=9

Kowin's mighty swing cleaves the tentacled horror in half, the two ends twitching for a few moments before finally going still.

Taking stock of the situation, Kowin and Baros realize they are the only ones still standing as Sandallan, Gregor, and Talmore are all paralyzed.  Neither magic-user nor dwarf have any idea how long their companions will remain in their currently helpless state.

Kowin sees the glint of what may be coins or other treasure in the hole underneath the fallen door from which the beast emerged.

OOC: Everyone gets 15 Experience Points!  We will add bonus XP from high Prime Requisites when the group heads back to town.  Baros and Kowin must decide what to do.  Do they want to wait for the paralysis to wear off?  Search the Carrion Crawler's lair for loot?  Drag their companions to a safer location?  Leave them behind for wandering monsters to hack apart?

Baros breathes a sigh of relief when the tentacled monstrosity finally collapses. He gives Kowin a reassuring thumbs-up before turning to the others. A frown on his face, he wonders how long they will remain paralyzed by the beast's attacks.

"Kowin, we can't leave them out here in the open. We have to take shelter and wait for the effects to wear off. We could drag them into the entranceway there, but there's no telling what else awaits."
