We have a tie on the initiative.  That means that the PCs and the creature all act at once.  I'll be posting the critter's attacks in a moment, but first, lets take a look at how combat works.

Order of Events in Combat

1. "Intentions: The DM asks each player what the character intends to do in the coming round."  I'm skipping this step due to the play-by-post format as, generally speaking, your intentions and your actions when your turn come up are usually the same.

2. "Initiative: Each side rolls 1d6.  The side that wins the initiative acts first."

3. "Actions, side that wins initiative."
a. "Morale checks, if needed" Morale rules apply to monsters and NPC hirelings and henchman, not player characters.
b. "Movement" Any character or creature can move up to the per round movement rate before attacking.
c. "Missile Fire" Characters and creatures with missile attacks get their attacks before melee attackers.
d. "Magic spells and magic items used" If you are casting a spell or using an item, it happens at this point in the round.
e. "Hand-to-hand combat" Melee attacks finally happen at this point in the round.

4. "Actions, side losing initiative; follow steps a through e above."

5. "Results:
a. "all the monsters are defeated, the combat (and game turn) ends."
b. "one side runs away, the other may pursue, and the fleeing side may attempt to evade."
c. the combat continues; return to the first step in the in the Order of Events in Combat and repeat all the steps."

What's not obvious is that steps c, d, and e are effectively mutually exclusive.  If you are making a missile attack, you can't also make a hand-to-hand attack or cast a spell.  Again, due to the play-by-post format, most of the time and the way initiative works, everyone's actions will generally happen at the same time on the PC group's initiative.

Now, in this round, initiative is tied, which means the creature gets to act at the same time as the PCs.  That means that it may very well paralyze Sandallan as his sword hits, for example.

Four attacks against Sandallan. (1d20=2, 1d20=10, 1d20=18, 1d20=15)

Four attacks against Gregor. (1d20=17, 1d20=1, 1d20=16, 1d20=7)

The creature's tentacles lash out at Sandallan and Gregor, the strange numbing slime connecting twice on each of them.

Need two saving throws vs. Paralysis from Sandallan and Gregor please.  We will resolve all player character actions once everyone has posted.  Sandallan and Gregor's actions will go off regardless of whether they pass their saves, due to the tied initiative.

Gregor feels the sting of a tentacle across his neck and another srikes his arm, despite the numbing effect beginning to coarse through his body, he brings his weapon hammering down.

"Remind me again why this was the wiser choice to enter?"

Kowin turns to see his comrades engaged in battle. He draws his weapon and shouts,

"Oh no you don't beasty. I won't be left out of this."

Weapon in hand, Kowin charges towards the beast trying to get as close as possible before attacking.

With his mighty War Axe in hand, Kowin raises it high and brings down a mighty blow on the beast.

Attack: d20+2=14
Damage: d8+2=4

As Sandallan thrusts with his sword, four tentacles thrust towards his flesh.  Two are stopped by his shield, but two gently graze his face.... to no effect!

"Detause be are abventhurers!", Sandallan mumbles as answer to Gregor.

Can't get rid of Sandallan that easily.  He rolled a 19 and 17, respectively on his saving throws!  And, as a reminder, he rolled a 14 to hit and 2 damage on the carrior crawler.

Baros notices his hand trembling as he clutches his dagger. Cursing himself for a coward, he forces his hand still and shoots the carrion crawler a look of pure hatred, as much born of irritation at his own lack of martial prowess as the beast before him.

Spying Talmore's vulnerable state, Baros sheathes his dagger and maneuvers closer to his comrade, attempting to drag him away from the beast until he recovers.

Mechanics Show

Changed my move because I couldn't tell who was incapacitated. Baros will do his best to get Talmore to safety until he is good to go.

Given the laziness and morbid obsesity amongst D&Ders, being able to convince someone to get on their feet, do some heavy exercise, and use their words to make them be healthier must seem magical.

Felix takes one look at the creature and flees, his courage failing him.

Weapons descend on the creature's moist, squirming flesh, slicing open wounds that ooze black ichor.  Remarkably, the beast is still alive.  Gregor, hit by the gooey tentacles just as he landed a hit against the creature, slumps to the ground. 

Meanwhile, Baros is able to drag Talmore out of the way.

Gregor, Sandallan and Kowin all hit the creature, but it still has some fight left in it.  Gregor now joins Talmore in paralysis.  Someone roll initiative for round 3!

"G'egor! Dohhhhh!" shouts Sandallan as he lunges forward with his blade once more.  "Dake 'dat!" he shouts at the creature as he flails wildly with his sword.

OOC: The party gets a 5!
Sandallan rolls a 14 to hit but only 1 in damage.

Kowin sees Gregor fall and moves in between him and the beast.

"Y'll have to get pahst me, if ya want to eat my friends!" He shouts at the monster.

He swings his axe with all his might in an attempt to fell the beast.

Attack: 1d20+2=5
Damage: 1d8+2=7
