With his companions in trouble Garrion crashes into the room, clearly stealth is not his forte.

Seeing the bat attack he is unsure how to get at it without hurting his companions. He had done far too little fighting in confined spaces to be much good at it.

Seeing that Baros is behind Sandallen, Garrion picks up the tactics.

Get behind me elf friend and we'll deal with this creature.

Hacking with his blade, trying not to hit anyone, Garrion levels a blow at the creature.

ATRIUS

Cursing his jittery nerves on the first shot, Atreus draws another arrow from his quiver and takes aim at the giant bat.

Attack = 1d20+2 = 4  (+1 dex bonus, +1 close range)

Damage = 1d6 = 6

Atrius sees the arrow leap from the bow with incredible speed and go wide of the target.
"Too hard" he mutters under his breath, "Gotta take it easy, I'm trying to hard." As he watches the bat swoop and dive at his comrades, Atrius maintains a close on the other doors to the room. As the battle drags on, Atrius fears the sounds of combat will draw other monsters towards them.

OOC:
Spoiler: Show
 2 arrows fired and missed in this room, 17 arrows remaining in quiver.

Watching his new friends try their hardest to slay the troublesome bat, Baros briefly wonders whether such a creature might take to life as a familiar. The idea vanishes as quickly as it comes - such power is still beyond his grasp, and he reckons that the relationship would sour with the knowledge that the bat probably thinks of him here and now as a snack.

Knowing he will only get in the way if he tries to swipe at the creature with his knife, Baros contents himself with keeping lookout, beginning to suspect that other things - perhaps other bats - are now aware of the battle.

You're not really making much of an argument when you compare something to a MMORPG and assume people think that means bad.  Lets face it, they make the money, have the audience and the budget.  We here on this board are fans of TTRPGs but lets not try to pretend none of us play MMORPGs.

Given the laziness and morbid obsesity amongst D&Ders, being able to convince someone to get on their feet, do some heavy exercise, and use their words to make them be healthier must seem magical.

Gregor swings his mace at the bat...

Gregor attacks the bat (1d20-1=7,  1d6-1=4)

But succeeds only in attracting its attention.

Bat attacking Gregor (1d20=16,  1d4=3)

The bat's fangs sink deeply into Gregor's neck, wounding him gravely.

Initiative Round 3!

Bat Initiative Round 3 (1d6=4)

Going to post the bat's Round 3 action on the assumption that it wins the initiative.  If not, the party's actions will precede this and perhaps prevent it, depending on what they do.

The bat attempts to latch onto Gregor and drain his blood...

Giant Bat attack round 3 (1d20=1,  1d4=2)

But it fails miserably as Gregor ducks underneath it.

SANDALLAN

Well, it's a comedy of errors as the giant bat and heroes swing wildly at each other.  Sandallan contrbutes his own brand of slapstick to the performance.

OOC:
Initiative Roll: 1d6=4 (It's a tie!)
Sandallan's Attack and damage: 1d20=9, 1d8=4

This bat was proving to be a problem.

Garrion tried to attack the bat once more as it made another move for Gregor. Sending his sword crashing towards the creature, Garrion tried to end it.

Rolls: 1d20 = 4, 1d8 = 3

As his blade comes nowhere near the bat, it occurred to Garrion this was the first bat that he had ever fought. There was nothing in his training how to handle this!

ATRIUS

Their situation would laughable if it wasn't so serious. Despite everyone's wild flailing and near misses, the bat had landed a grevious blow on Gregor and Atrius could see he was in big trouble.

"Gregor, get back, get out of there!"

Atrius draws another arrow, takes aim and fires. He maintains his position where he can see all entrances to the room, but moves away from the bat if it comes towards him.

Attack with longbow = 1d20 + 2 = 12 (+1 dex and +1 short range)

Damage = 1d6 = 3

Baros notices the difficulty his companions seem to be having and briefly wonders if perhaps knocking the bat out cold with a spell might help. He dismisses the idea soon enough, realizing that expending his precious magic on one overgrown bat would be a waste. Also, he knew enough stories of heroes throwing their best at a foe only to be crushed when the next, more powerful enemy strikes to know that, for all he knew, a house-sized serpent or some other horrible creature lay in wait further in the bowels of the keep.

Sandallan and Garrion both scrape air as the bat wings about wildly.  Atrius comes closer with his arrow, only narrowly missing the bat's wing.

Gregor attempts once again to hit the bat with his mace...

Attack and damage vs Giant Bat (1d20-1=4,  1d6-1=3)

And joins the others in the comedy of errors.

Round 4 Initiative!

Giant Bat Round 4 Initiative (1d6=3)

Once again going to post the bat's action now.  If the characters initiative comes before the bat's they may prevent the bat's action if they take it down.

The bat seems focused on Gregor, having drawn blood and craving more.

Attack and damage vs Gregor (1d20=20,  1d4=3)

The bat latches on to Gregor's neck and drains away his blood and his life as the cleric slumps to the ground, dead.

SANDALLAN

Sandallan tries a thrust instead of a slash, but only manages to graze the creature.

I think Gregor is going to die as all actions occur simultaneously...

Party Initiative (1d6=3)

Sandallan Attack (1d20=15, 1d8=1)
