What are you trying to do?

Forgive me, but your threads all seem to follow a specific form: Ask something, then argue about your answer, then three posts later reveal the context that provoked you to ask the question in the first place, which usually reveals a better answer, and then the cycle repeats as more context appears.

In this context, the answer's "No" - at least as levels go up. The most reliable - an Antimagic Field effect - can be avoided by a few very good caster builds. Without AMF, Freedom of Movement shuts down all grapplers. So realistically, you're looking for a low-level answer (say, pre-level-7 or so). And the problem there is making your own grapple reliable - the best pre-equipment grapple bonus I've seen on a level 6 character or so comes from a psychic warrior (Expansion for 2 size increases, Grip of Iron for +6, and Strength of My Enemy to drain Strength from foes you grab). If you can pin an opponent (or have Silence cast on you), you can block verbal components and command words, which prevents most of the teleport escapes, and all that's left is trying to match your grapple check.

You could cheat a bit with sovereign glue, but that's not exactly low level.

Cancer prognosis: I am now cancer-free.

Just a grapple build but I know grapple sucks and I do not want to do the grapplemancer wizard crap or the druid shapeshifter grappler
But since I know getting out of grapples is easy with spells or abilities that prevent you from being grappled
Yeah freedom of movement is what I was thinking of to try to prevent that from working I now there are some classes that get it. If damage had to be over come to cast spells that could help but I do not know if that is the way it works

Please do everyone a favor and stop posting from a mobile site. This can wait until you can find a full keyboard and the desktop site.

The problem isn't trying to stop "Oh, I'm grappled, I cast Freedom of Movement". It's that Freedom of Movement lasts ten minutes per level and is available to people with divinations. Thus, Freedom of Movement will in all likelihood be up already when you fight your targets.

You can suppress an active Freedom of Movement if you're using an antimagic field effect (though getting these on grappler-types is kind of difficult without ludicrously expensive custom gear, and quite possibly a book to the face), but these can be skipped out by some of the more dangerous casters already even before you look into what equipment can provide. These are the same characters with divinations and contingencies that can make your life hell if you even think about approaching them.

For this reason, I said that your best options are all low-level - anything past level 7 has to contend with Freedom of Movement, things that are so dangerous you really don't want to try grappling them in the first place.

At the really low levels - below 4 or 5 or so - running up and wrestling the mage might work. These are also largely the same levels where you can get by with a nonmagical weapon, by the way. Conventional grappling goes out the window as magical proficiency goes up.

That said, we have a grappler in one of our teams, and he's honestly one of my favorite builds of all-time (he's DisposableHero's character in Dead for Nothing). He just grapples using Telekinesis and some inexpensive support gear (and since his teammates include a save/check-hosing debuffer and a Words of Creation specialist, this tactic succeeds more often and kills faster than it would on its own - damn near soloed two essence reavers last session, and those monsters are specifically designed to kill characters like him.). He also isn't entirely focused on grappling, so if it fails he can still punch through most magical defenses on his own (even before his teammates provide support). Most warrior wrestlers can only grapple, and as a result have nothing to fall back to when something goes "Nope, Freedom of Movement."

EDIT: I just remembered: Even Silence effects and pinning won't stop some peices of equipment. Psionic gear tends to be triggered via command thought, and I can cheaply throw in low-level teleports on psionic tattoos that remain completely hidden under my clothes until I trigger the effect. And that's if you get past my faster teleports and manage to get your paws on me in the first place.

Cancer prognosis: I am now cancer-free.

Ok so what combo for grappling build do you recommend ? See I was looking at the fling enemy feat and using them as improvised weapons to throw at other enemies. I just thought it would be a very funny and fun way to dispatch an enemy and if this char goes epic there is a feat that allows you to throw an enemy to any target you see without penalty which could have some hilarity in its own right
It really doesn't take a lot of effort to be a Tash Monk/PsyWar who's good at grappling but can also just pummel his foes with UASs.  You can get IUAS and Imp Grapple as bonus feats without interfering with taking Monastic Training as a bonus feat.  Expansion VERY much favors grappling and is the core power of the King of Smack, adding a +5 on grapple checks per size increase.  Strength of my Enemy is also common.  Really, all you have to do is pick up Scorpion's Grasp from Sandstorm and grappling goes from being your main schtick to something like "oh, does he have FoM?  No?  I'll take my free grapple attempt then!"  If you want to invest a little bit more resources, you can always pick up Grip of Iron for a sizeable grapple bonus and maybe spend 2 feats on getting Constrict (via Crushing Roots of the Mountain or Kraken Mantle) without hurting your ability to just pugilize your foes with your hamfists of doomy doom too much.
Ok I have come up with my idea for my grapple build now I just have to put it into play.
Here is the idea grab an opponent yell (pull) throw him into the air about 30' pull out a bow or throwing weapons make attacks while he is in the air on the last attack action grab a spear and place under opponent and have him land on it instinct shie kabob [:D]

I can't begin to tell you how many ways this will fail. Most notably, by the level you will be able to pull off the setup, any opponent worth using it on will either be immune to grappling or will just fly away. (And this assumes you can somehow get a pass on the action demands of throwing someone up in the air (i.e. the fastest such moves are the Setting Sun throws, which are standard actions; people fall a REALLY REALLY long distance in six seconds, so unless you're Chuck, you won't be able to get the air time needed for this.)

It matters not how fast people fall in six seconds all that matters is the game mechanics and that says I can make a crap load of attacks in 6 sec but you have a point with that throwing an opponent is a standard action and unless it is there time they are not flying away. So I get all my attacks before they can employ that spell.

So I get all my attacks before they can employ that spell.

Throwing an opponent is a standard action - meaning you can't actually make extra attacks afterwards. You're confusing a standard action with an attack. The game itself says you can make ONE attack in that timeframe, barring boosts, and that ignores the cost of switching to two separate weapons mid attack.

Throwing an opponent says that the opponent "lands" within range, where you throw him - and if you throw him up, nothing magic keeps him up there. He'll fall immediately. Since we know how high he is when he starts falling (namely, how far you threw him), it's easy to show that he'll hit the ground in 1.4 seconds. Can you make extra attacks and still set down a spear in 4.6 seconds (minus the time it took to throw him in the first place)?

By the levels you do this as anything other than a swordsage (who can't do the extra attack bit), they will have Freedom of Movement up or will be flying in the first place (not sitting around waiting to be thrown, then casting the spell - the spell is already active and they're effectively out of reach or immune to grapple in the first place).

Functionally, all grapple tricks that don't touch on AMF are low-level tricks only. You're trying for high-level grappling and not realizing how impossible it is.

Scorpion's Grasp from Sandstorm is a compromise, in that it removes the opportunity cost from grappling so long as you were planning on punching him; it's easier to optimize an unarmed fighter than it is a grappler, and that if you happen to be in a situation where grappling works, the feat will let you know. It's still not all that amazing though.

Cancer prognosis: I am now cancer-free.

From that feat:

"Flinging the enemy requires a standard action."

Same problem as the Setting Sun throws, except here you have to be grappling the guy (which is impossible with Freedom of Movement) while the Setting Sun throws just involve getting close enough to hit him (they use the Trip mechanics despite being described as grabbing and throwing).

Additionally:

"For every 5 points by which your grapple check beats your foe's grapple check or Escape Artist check, you can throw that foe 10 feet. Your foe lands prone in the square you designate."

Again, relies on grappling. Also, the distance is capped - assuming you're able to fairly make a grapple check, you realistically won't be throwing them very far in the first place. (Compare to a swordsage, who might be able to Comet Throw someone 60' at ease.)

"You must be strong enough to lift an enemy over your head (the enemy's weight cannot exceed your character's maximum load) to throw him."

Yet another limitation that the Setting Sun throws don't have.

What you're trying to do would be significantly better accomplished using Setting Sun, which is available to swordsages (as a base class) and Masters of Nine or Shadow Sun Ninjas (as prestige classes).

Mechanically, the throws are also better for your followup trick. Since they use Trip attacks, if you have Improved Trip and the enemy lands in a square you threaten, you can get a followup attack. That followup attack could also possibly trigger Scorpion's Grasp if you're dead set on punishing the party by using grapple rules.

Cancer prognosis: I am now cancer-free.

Seishi: I think it might be fun to have a one-off [game] tuned fairly, but with the intention of wiping the party.

DisposableHero_: if [my campaign] has taught me nothing else, it is that with this group, nothing tuned fairly will ever wipe the party

RadicalTaoist: I've been throwing **** at this group that's 5 levels over CRed in DFN, and have yet to wipe the party.

One massively important thing you forgot to mention - what level is this for? There're a lot of other things it would be useful to know, but that's kind of important.

Freedom of Movement doesn't even exist until L7+. Even then, it's only for Clerics and the like (though Heart of Water exists, unfortunately for you). From this level up, you know grappling is going to be hit-and-miss at best, though if you have a dispelling team-mate you may be able to get around that.

At lower levels, grappling can be killer. Remember that even if someone can cast something like Dimension Door, they need to make a Concentration check (each at higher levels, but tough at these levels) to do so. However, if you can get right to a pin (should be possible to try the touch attack as one of a full attack, and a second grapple to pin as another, meaning you can do this with +6 or more BAB, or Flurry) they can't speak, so it needs to be a Silenced Dimension Door. Even then, it's a standard action, so just go grapple them again next round; it doesn't cost you spell slots.

Of course there are things like Abrupt Jaunt which will screw you over, but that screws everyone over.

There are several other problems with grappling, yes, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. However, it depends massively on your level, chargen rules, setting, etc.
Yeah it is for a level 16 char. Reading you post I just thought of something but I have to figure out how to make a small race a good grappler. What about whisper gnome with silencing strike? Even if the spellcaster has all the feats for silent, still, and material that will push spell level to high to be cast by our levels right?
Yeah, L16 is pushing it, to say the least.

Things like FoM shouldn't be as big an issue as they need to be, actually. If your DM is running random monsters, a pre-written adventure, or the like, not a massive proportion of foes are actually going to be equipped with the crazy things that make grapplers cry. If he's picking his encounters more carefully, he should be giving you a mix of things your chosen strategy does and doesn't work against, to make you work for it without making you useless.

However, at L16, there's just far too much which can go wrong. Maybe look at the Black Blood Cultist Handbook (seems to take some optimistic interpretations, but hey); at least when you are grappling, you can do big damage, and if you can get to a pin, that shuts most people down (or at least is going to cost them). Otherwise something monstrous (Tauric Giant Octopus?) might be your best bet. Improved Grab means you don't have that opportunity cost, so you can focus on full-attacking and just wrap people up as and when you're able with no penalty.

I think someone said that grappling has two settings: high and off. That's probably about right. The things which shut it down stop it completely. If everything is right for it to work then it can destroy people, but there's no middle ground.
