Gankrodo cackled. The mages of Highwind Tower would be able to do nothing to stop his rampage with the forces of nature itself on his side.

I posted this card in the Gandervell thread, and it's getting some negative feedback. The trouble is, I really like it. Should I remove it from the set? What do you guys think?

Please autocard: [c]Shard Phoenix[/c] = Shard Phoenix.

Countering a Lightning Bolt is the opposite of letting nature take its course.
Yeah... Avoid Fate was made before the color pie was quite as solid as it is now...you'll either want to (1) remove it, (2) change its color [to blue, most likely], or (3) add some color-appropriate restrictions like Guttural Response.

All cards I make have artists credited in the appropriate places. Artist names in "quotes" are DeviantArt usernames unless otherwise mentioned.

"I play a Grave Betrayal. I get all your dead things now, mwahahahaha!"
"Okay. I play a Phage the Untouchable. Piss me off and I will sac it."
"... ... ... so guys, remind me again how to sac my own enchantments?"

This is white.
This is white.

If this is white, Cancel is white. Instants can do the same thing as sorceries and sometimes the same thing as creatures (like Advent of the Wurm).

I think its fine given guttural response and green having other anti-blue spells.

As long as you dont give green "counter target creature spell"
This could easily be white, cancel hits creatures and walkers too. This hits mostly things that will be targeting you or things you control. Sorceris are generally big pwoerfup effects. "Generally"

So true! ^-^ Seriously, mono-green only prevents or compensates for enemy spells that are played on your own turn, but mono-green doesn't counter them and especially not other mono-green instants..
There's your green solution, then

"Counter target spell if it's your turn"

That'll allow you to counter stuff with flash too but it totally fits in with green wanting people to cast spells on their own turns. And yeah, weird Johnny combos can counter their own spells with it.
I haven't read the flavor for Gan, but if it fits the flavor I don't see why not.

Although to appease the color pie mafia, why not just replicate the spells effects/invalidate the spells effects if it affects a creature you control...something along the lines of Wild Defiance...

Not gonna be as clean though, so I stay stick with what you have.

(If I get the intent, it's supposed to protect your guys from a Giant Growthed enemy creature in addition to traditional removal.)

In RTR limited Dispel was used a lot to counter combat tricks, and I don't think that is something green should be doing.

Well, if we're talking about Limited, I did make it an uncommon...

Even if I made it , Counter target spell that was cast during your turn, it'd still be able to hit combat tricks. As long as it's your turn.

I can only see green countering things targettjng you or your creatures, a sort of fog. Maybe if you had a set caring about other permanets, you could bleed it into countering things targettjng your permanents.
I'm just gonna remove it from the set. I really like the card, but if people have this much trouble with it, it's just not worth it.

Thanks everybody for your input!

Some people don't like when the color pie bends, other people really like it when the color pie bends.

For me, Beast Within is awesome. For some, they hate that green gets that ability.

If Green gets Autumn's Veil, there's no reason they shouldn't get this.
Autumn's veil hates a specific color. As does guttural response.
Yeah, if this said "Counter target blue or black instant spell," I'm pretty sure nobody would have a problem with it, but then it would be a color hoser and I hate color hosers.

If it can counter spells during your own turn, it can counter combat tricks that are being used defensively, but not those being used offensively. That kind of fits with green, and since City of Solitude already (pre-emptively) does that, I think it's fine.

also veil targets a specific function of cards.

but yeah I agree with flopfoot, I think you can make this work through the "on your turn" clause if you want.
