Adnd Convert

I just got my hands on some olds Adnd (Advanced Dnd) books and i was woundering if there anyone has see or knows how to conver stuff to the new system without having to rewirte it
Google it. I know there were rules published for updating from AD&D 2E to 3.0, and then more for updating 3.0 to 3.5. After that... It stops. WotC didn't want you to be able to play 4E the same way, so they never published rules to update character sheets for it.

I do, however, have one last lesson on this subject. That last one? The only build in this post that can one-shot average opponents[by dealing twice as much damage as they have HP? I would argue that it is not optimized. Why isn't it optimized? Because it's overkill. Overkill is NOT optimizing. This means that there are portions of this build dedicated to damage which can safely be removed and thrown elsewhere. For example, you probably don't need both Leap Attack AND Headlong Rush at the same time. You could pick up Extra Rage feats for stamina, feats to support AoO effects, feats that work towards potential prestige classes, and so on. However, you could also shift our ability scores around somewhat. I mean, if you're getting results like that with 16 starting Strength, maybe you can lower it to 14, and free up four points to spend somewhere else - perhaps back into Charisma, giving you some oomph for Intimidating Rage or Imperious Command if you want. You can continue to tune this until it deals "enough" damage - and that "enough" does not need to be "100%". It could easily be, say, 80% (leaving the rest to the team), if your DM is the sort who would ban one-hit killers.

So when do you think Bachmann will be saying she met a mother the previous night that had a son who got a blood transfusion using a gay guy's blood, and now the son is retardedly gay?
When she meets CJ's mom?

Do you know what ediiton of AD&D it is and I'm assuming you want to convert to 3.5? Y0u more or less have to rework all of the encounters for AD&D prepublished advenutres. Involves a large amount of on the fly conversions.  Most AD&D adventures seemed to be for 6-8 people.

I have used those rules in the past but the results vary, some things don't convert very well. Your 13 Int Wizard from 2E might not do so well in 3(.5)

YMMV.

I think both are on the WotC website somewhere.

5e should strongly stay away from "I don't like it, so you can't have it either."

I once asked the question (in D&D 3.5) "Does a Druid4/Wizard3/ArcaneHierophant1 have Wildshape?". Jesse Decker and Andy Collins: Yes and the text is clear and can't be interpreted differently. Rich Redman and Ed Stark: No and the text is clear and can't be interpreted differently. Skip Williams: Lol, it's worded ambiguously and entirely not how I intended it. (Cust. Serv. Reference# 050815-000323)

They're here, specifically this link. I think it's an interesting read, although it does get a bit shaky in a few places and of course it's limited to core material. (For instance, the "I created my character with a kit" line could have said "Look at the closest prestige class to that kit and pick skills and feats from its prerequisites"...). In any case, I'm surprised that given the degree of difference between the editions, a conversion is doable at all.

Cancer prognosis: I am now cancer-free.

Seishi: I think it might be fun to have a one-off [game] tuned fairly, but with the intention of wiping the party.

DisposableHero_: if [my campaign] has taught me nothing else, it is that with this group, nothing tuned fairly will ever wipe the party

RadicalTaoist: I've been throwing **** at this group that's 5 levels over CRed in DFN, and have yet to wipe the party.

If the "new system" is 4e or 5e there aren't any that I have ever seen not that I have been looking.  There are basic conversion rules for "updating" editions thru 3.5 but those are often guidelines and usually work in isolation.  Actually "updating" things like classes and such doesn't really work as you are basically taking an old class and using a new one instead.

While you may be able to take an old adventure and drop it into a 3.5 campaign using the 3.5 versions of the mosters within it this doesn't always work well because some other parts of the metagame have changed.
Converting from AD&D to 4e:

1) Find character sheet.
2) Crumple character sheet.
3) Throw it away.
4) Open 4e books.
5) Throw them away.
6) Find AD&D books.
7) Play D&D.

If you're terribly afraid of your character dying, it may be best if you roleplayed something other than an adventurer.

I'll admit I haven't done much more then crack the few 4e books I had pre-ordered (was really hoping 4e was like SWSE) but it may be easier to conver an AD&D character to 4e then a 3x character.  I say this because in AD&D almost all character abilities were based on class and to a lesser extent magic items and maybe ability scores.  This type of rigid character shouldn't have much trouble being ported into 4e except that there will still be a bunch of things left to fill in.  Now spellcasters may have trouble still but at least non-casters should be convertable.

Maybe it became possible but I know when 4e came out there were plenty of 3x characters that just could not be converted without starting all over again and some serious rethinking.  At least when it came to converting 2ed characters to 3rd edition things were pretty straight forward especially once you include a few PrCs for some of AD&D's multiclass characters.

Rework may be a strong word for it. I ran haunted halls of evening star on the fly & the village of homlett. Creature swap is easy enough.

I remember the Haunted Halls of Evening Star. It was mostly a low level dungeon crawl. Choice of edition should hardly make a difference there, it's probably one of the easier adventures to convert between editions.

I tihnk the enemies mostly consisted of some low level humanoids, I don't remember if they were orcs, goblins or kobolds.

I only know the village of Homlett from the Temple of Elemental Evil., was there also an Adventure that focussed on the village itself?

5e should strongly stay away from "I don't like it, so you can't have it either."

T1: The Village of Hommlet is the first adventure, T1-4: The Temple of Elemental Evil is the sequel, which I believe includes everything from T1.

In general my experience with converting 2e to 3.5 is that, with low level stuff, it's easy - swap some stats and you're done. The higher level you go, the harder it gets.
I've been looking at converting Dragon Mountain.  While I think it can be done it needs to be done from the top with the evil queen and then back track to figure out what the challenge difficulties leading up to her need to be.  I started a thread asking if anyone had ideas about her but didn't get much response.
