Honoring WRECAN With An Addition To DnD Next

The late forum guide and hero to many posters, Wrecan, was well known for his helping of others and wonderful haikus.

He did a lot to support the community here so I would like to see him honored with some kind of shout out in the next edition of Dungeons and Dragons.

I'd like to petition for some kind of addition to DnD 5th edition to honor Wrecan.

Even if it's just a small passage of text in the published books for 5th edition, I think that a lot of players would be on board with this.

How about it? Any suggestions?

For people who don't know who Wrecan is, the following links might help.

Uh, call me confused, but did something happen to wrecan that I didn't know about?

Edit: Wow. It explains why I didn't see him on lately. I'm sure once the shock wears off (if ever?), I'll have more appropriate words, but for now, yeah, he will be sorely missed.

I'll second this, and think even a dedication page would be nice. Take his avatar and make it a watermark behind the dedication words (in whatever form exactly they would take), and leave that as its own page in the front of each of the three core books, maybe.

But yeah - definitely seconding this general idea.

For those confused on how DDN's modular rules might work, this may provide some insight: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/11/the-world-of-darkness-shines-when-it-abandons-canon

@mikemearls: Uhhh... do you really not see all the 3e/4e that's basically the entire core system?

It is entirely unnecessary to denigrate someone else's approach to gaming in order to validate your own.

Oh damn this really sucks. He was a good poster, one of the few on this board who I respect. God really does take the best of us.

Stop the H4TE

For those who don't yet know, Wrecan passed away in late April.
I support this.
I'm in full support of honoring wrecan in whatever way possible. He deserves it.

Dreaming the Impossible Dream
Imagine a world where the first-time D&D player rolls stats, picks a race, picks a class, picks an alignment, and buys gear to create a character. Imagine if an experienced player, maybe the person helping our theoretical player learn the ropes, could also make a character by rolling ability scores and picking a race, class, feat, skills, class features, spells or powers, and so on. Those two players used different paths to build characters, but the system design allows them to play at the same table. -Mearl

I agree with Strider. A dedication page for Wrecan should be included in each of the DnD Next core books. The man should be honored for his many contributions.

This... sucks. Wrecan will be sorely missed. I too sign this petition.
Personally I think a wonderful tribute to Wrecan would be for the community to work together in a courteous and understanding way without always sharpening their knives to carve chunks from one another over basically trivial matters.

Someone mentioned naming a lizardman after Wrecan.  This would be a nice I think.

My thoughts too.

I like this. Maybe the illustration could be a colored version of his forum avatar (which I think was from a 2E MM, but i'm probably wrong).

Yeah, it was the lizardman pic from Monster Manual I for 1st edition.

The artwork was black-n-white though, so there'd be no need for coloration.

Just realized it's listed as "lizard man" (two words, not one like in later versions).  Edit:  I take that back, apparently it's never been "lizardman" but rather "lizardfolk" ;).

I'd like to see a small honor towards wrecan for sure, whether a dedication page or a lizardfolk honoring him, he deserves something atleast.
As i said in the other thread yesterday;

I think that'd be cool if the next Player's Handbook 1st page says somewhere in the credits;

   Dedicated to the memory of

My personal feeling is that there should be a dedication of some kind on these boards.  In every sense of the word, Wrecan was a pillar of the community.

This is what I'm going to do. Definitely going to try harder to play nice and make this community, this pace he loved, a nicer happier place.

RIP, wrecan.

For a man I never met, I feel like I knew him well. Smart, thoughtful, courteous, and a natural leader.

My thoughts go out to his friends and family.
I want to let you all know how much your kind words and thoughts mean to me and to our children.  I have been showing them the threads and how much their father was admired and loved here.  One of my daughters was saying just this morning how this participating here used to light up his face every time.

Again,
Thank you from all of us.

Jodie and Leah thank you for sharing your father/husband with us.  The time he spent with us here definitely enriched everyone who came here even if they didn't interact with him directly through his insight and perhaps more importantly his example to others.

I remember when I first signed on to these boards that Wrecan was one of the first to offer me guidance, advice, and sometimes quick correction when I let my typing outrun my brain. We shared many similar goals and outlooks for this game we all love so much. I've said many times that if I were to ever become a millionaire I would hire Wrecan (and a select few others) to design an RPG to rival them all.

He will be sorely missed. Though I never knew him personally, I considered him a true brother in the hobby an admirable contributor to these boards. Rest in peace, Mark. I'll miss you, man.

- Chris

I like the idea of incorporating Wrecan into the D&D lore. Make him a new god for lizardmen or an important character of that race. I would like to see his name echo throughout the future of Dungeons & Dragons lore.

We will miss you Wrecan...

Sign me up for this.
He was a member a community first and foremost. We should do something here.
Easing up on edition warring would be nice, but I'd really like to see a forum renamed after him. Make him a permanent fixture.

How ever each of us wish to see Wrecan honored for his contributions here we all need to remember it in the next survey, it is the most likely way to make the way we feel heard, especially in large numbers. Either way, the lizardfolk pantheon gained one new member for my home games from now on.

I would kind of like to see Wrecan become a good aligned lizard folk god. Wrecan as a force of civilization for a chaotic race. Wrecan as the god that prompts the lizard folk to fight against their more volatile natures and better themselves.

I definatly think that idea is both appropriate and fitting. I think that is what I'll request seeing happen.

That sort of reminds me of Elistraee in the Forgotten Realms pre-Spellplague world.

A voice of wisdom with a devoted following that tries to better itself as well as bring hope to their brethren.

I agree Mark/Wrecan has earned a permanent spot in D&D. A dedication in 5e PHB seems very appropriate, as well as a general improvement in the interactions on this forum. The latter would do him more honor than the former, but both are more than earned by his contributions.

Would it be asking too much then to have lizardfolk make it into 5e as a playable race? I know it would trample on dragonborn a bit, but even having both wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, since I'm sure some would prefer the option of a reptile-based anthropomorphic race that wasn't related to dragons.

F-111 Interdictor Long (200+ squares) distance ally teleporter. With some warlord stuff. Broken in a plot way, not a power way.

Thought Switch Higher level build that grants upto 14 attacks on turn 1. If your allies play along, it's broken.

Elven Critters Crit op with crit generation. 5 of these will end anything. Broken.

King Fisher Optimized net user.  Moderate.

Boominator Fun catch-22 booming blade build with either strong or completely broken damage depending on your reading.

Very Distracting Warlock Lot's of dazing and major penalties to hit. Overpowered.

Pocket Protector Pixie Stealth Knight. Maximizing the defender's aura by being in an ally's/enemy's square.

Yakuza NinjIntimiAdin: Perma-stealth Striker that offers a little protection for ally's, and can intimidate bloodied enemies. Very Strong.

Chargeburgler with cheese Ranged attacks at the end of a charge along with perma-stealth. Solid, could be overpowered if tweaked.

Void Defender Defends giving a penalty to hit anyone but him, then removing himself from play. Can get somewhat broken in epic.

Scry and Die Attacking from around corners, while staying hidden. Moderate to broken, depending on the situation.

Skimisher Fly in, attack, and fly away. Also prevents enemies from coming close. Moderate to Broken depending on the enemy, but shouldn't make the game un-fun, as the rest of your team is at risk, and you have enough weaknesses.

Indestructible Simply won't die, even if you sleep though combat.  One of THE most abusive character in 4e.

Sir Robin (Bravely Charge Away) He automatically slows and pushes an enemy (5 squares), while charging away. Hard to rate it's power level, since it's terrain dependent.

Death's Gatekeeper A fun twist on a healic, making your party "unkillable". Overpowered to Broken, but shouldn't actually make the game un-fun, just TPK proof.

Death's Gatekeeper mk2, (Stealth Edition) Make your party "unkillable", and you hidden, while doing solid damage. Stronger then the above, but also easier for a DM to shut down. Broken, until your DM get's enough of it.

Domination and Death Dominate everything then kill them quickly. Only works @ 30, but is broken multiple ways.

Battlemind Mc Prone-Daze Protecting your allies by keeping enemies away. Quite powerful.

The Retaliator Getting hit deals more damage to the enemy then you receive yourself, and you can take plenty of hits. Heavy item dependency, Broken.

Dead Kobold Transit Teleports 98 squares a turn, and can bring someone along for the ride. Not fully built, so i can't judge the power.

Psilent Guardian Protect your allies, while being invisible. Overpowered, possibly broken.

Rune of Vengance Do lot's of damage while boosting your teams. Strong to slightly overpowered.

Charedent BarrageA charging ardent. Fine in a normal team, overpowered if there are 2 together, and easily broken in teams of 5.

Super Knight A tough, sticky, high damage knight. Strong.

Super Duper Knight Basically the same as super knight with items, making it far more broken.

Mora, the unkillable avenger Solid damage, while being neigh indestuctable. Overpowered, but not broken.

Swordburst Maximus At-Will Close Burst 3 that slide and prones. Protects allies with off actions. Strong, possibly over powered with the right party.

His posts were definitely ones you didn't skim passed.  Going to miss his insights and humor.  I think beyond wizards honoring him, I'd like to see an option we could participate in indivdually, be it a charity he favored or sending assistance to his family.
