There's not many solid Black White control decks so I really wanted to do one. I haven't spent too much time on this idea yet so no fancy primer (yet). This a deck for versus games or small multiplayer games (3 to 4 players). The idea is to just ramp, blow up creatures and threats, and win by casting [CARD]Sorin's Vengeance[/CARD] or [CARD]Debt to the Deathless[/CARD]. I want to keep the deck Modern legal, budget friendly (no card that costs more than ~$5), and I don't want to add or remove any colors. My play circle is casual, so I'm not looking for something amazing or anything, but it would be nice if I could take this to a casual FNM and win a couple games.
Deck Breakdown: [CARD]Oblivion Ring[/CARD] hits things like enchantments and planeswalkers. [CARD]Day of Judgment[/CARD] is budget alternative to [CARD]Wrath of God[/CARD]/[CARD]Damnation[/CARD]. [CARD]Merciless Eviction[/CARD] is another board wipe and more potential planeswalker and enchantment removal. [CARD]Solemn Simulacrum[/CARD] mana fixes and mana ramps, he also draws us a card and can swing and block. [CARD]Wall of Omens[/CARD] is more card advantage and a great early game defender. [CARD]Phyrexian Arena[/CARD] is one of the best draw engines in Modern and makes it easier for us to draw our win conditions. [CARD]Debt to the Deathless[/CARD] is basically [CARD]Exsanguinate[/CARD] on crack. [CARD]Sorin's Vengeance[/CARD] is a 20 point life swing and often ends the game, in versus games this can be more effective than [CARD]Debt to the Deathless[/CARD]. 24 lands because it is important to hit a land every turn, especially early game to get to [CARD]Day of Judgment[/CARD] and [CARD]Solemn Simulacrum[/CARD] on turn 4.
The deck is pretty straight forward to play but there is decision making. Generally the ideal play is turn 2 Wall of Omens, and turn 3 Phyrexian Arena is possible. Go for the Throat and Path to Exile threats as necessary. turn 4 or 5 board wipe to deal with tokens, very agressive aggro or threats with hexproof. In theory this deck can win on turn 7 with a turn 6 Sorin's Vengeance thanks to earlier ramping from Solemn Simulacrum followed by a turn 7 Sorin's Vengeance. Debt to the Deathless shouldn't be played in versus games unless you are hitting them for 10 or more (there can be exceptions, such as if it will win the game, or life is very low at the time)
There are other options that could work with this deck. Witchbane Orb or Leyline of Sanctity would stop burn/mill/discard which otherwise this deck could have trouble with. Condemn would be the substitute to Path to Exile on a super budget. Boseiju, Who Shelters All could be a one or two of, especially in metas with heavy counter magic. I was trying to work in Pillory of the Sleepless, but I don't think it's necessary and Oblivion Ring is just more reliable. Edict spells like Barter in Blood or Geth's Verdict can hit scary threats like the big Eldrazis. In theory Sorin Markov would actually work here, and if he were a 5 dollar card, I'd probably run one or two. Anyways, I'm very open to suggestions though and really looking forward to feedback. Here's the deck:
