RBW "Debts of the Dead" Reanimator

Been playing this deck for a few days and it's really fun. Basically trying to group my creatures into either 1,4 or huge drops so I can Unburial Rites the big stuff and Immortal Servitude the small guys. I know it might be better to stick to only 1 drops (leave out the 4's) but they have been a big help so far (kind of trying to pick the ones I want, that's why there's one of each) and I like the idea that in a big mulitplayer game I might get enough mana to reanimate all my 4 drops (hey, I can dream right?). Any suggestions are always appreciated, I'm not 100% set on this decklist. Maybe modern legal? Legacy would be fine too I suppose...

Creatures: 14
(originally Necropolis Regent and I'm open to switching back)

Spells: 26
[deck]
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Faithless Looting
2x Elixir of Immortality
2x Boros Charm
2x Orzhov Charm
2x Terminate
1x Mizzium Mortars
4x Immortal Servitude
1x Moonsilver Spear
4x Unburial Rites
[/deck]

Land: 20
[deck]
3x Rakdos Guildgate
3x Boros Guildgate
2x Orzhov Guildgate
4x Mountain
4x Swamp
4x Plains
[/deck]

So I'm not sure if I want to beef up the number of Orzhov Charm or take it out completely. I like being abe to reanimate Vexing Devil a bunch throughout the game but I'd rather go 4x Terminate instead. Maybe I'll use the second mode on Orzhov Charm now that I'm running a few Elixir of Immortality (which I put in to get my spells back once I reanimate stuff).

I'd like to free up Figure of Destiny from one of my other decks and put him in here. Would be so much better than the 4 drops I have going (need Searing Spear to replace the Figure though).

Reanimator targets have been fun. The Hellkite is probably my favorite Timmy card and when paired with Necropolis Regent... it's pretty disgusting. I benched her for the Ulamog thing but I'm not sure that's a better gameplan.

Could go up to 1 more Moonsilver Spear. I like making Dragon tokens. I like making angel tokens. I really like when my dragon tokens make angel tokens and Alms Beast with Moonsilver Spear is pretty awesome too.

ok, whatever, fire away

i dont really see the point of alms beast in the deck tbh, and how are you getting your creatures to the graveyard? if your using immortal servitude why not have lot's of 1 drops etc and then some sort of board wipe, pyroclasm maybe? then you could bring back your creatures back after a sweep. ETB/LTB effects would also be good.
yea, Alms Beast is just kind of... there. I'd be happy to swap him out for more Firemane Avenger. Thought it would be cool to reanimate like 3 of those at once and swing for all that Lightning Helix damage. I've definitely thought about just going mainly 1 drops and Immortal Servitude with some kind of Wrath effect. Flayer of the Hatebound might be a good choice for one of the bigger creatures Since I'm reanimating Vexing Devils a bunch. Maybe swap him in instead of something else?

it's not about having them out on turn 1, it's about mass reanimating all of them for 4 mana.

1 in 20 cards are vexing devils

is there some way to get them to your graveyard besides casting them ? Buried Alive

Faithless Looting. Otherwise, they're 1 drops. Pretty sure I can cast them just fine Buried Alive is fine but I'd like to keep it Modern Legal if I can help it. I was running Reforge the Soul to dump a full hand into the yard. Dangerous Wager is another one I'm considering. I like Faithless Looting because I get to decide how I seed the yard instead of Grisly Salvage, where everything just gets dumped.

I wouldn't mind playing standard. I just cant afford the cards to compete right now

Really liking this combo with Flayer. Maybe go up to 2x Flayer, another Vexing Devil and another Cackler.

edit: added in some Slumbering Dragon. Seriously, reanimating a bunch of 1 drops with Flayer on the field is nuts and the 3 power on the dragon is amazing.

Sorry to bump this thread again but I'm seriously with the Immortal Servitude/Flater of the Hatebound combo. Probably gonna swap out all the non 1 drops and replace em with Flayer.

Since you plan on bringing everything back with Immortal Servitude maybe consider using Barter in Blood for removal. Killing Wave might be another good card to consider. Instead of trying to protect your board with Boros Charm I would try and clear the board as often as possible to allow you to setup.

With the current setup of the deck I would consider changing the white for blue. Swap Unburial Rites for Forbidden Alchemy and start filling your grave. Forbidden Alchemy would allow you to toss things but still hit and keep Immortal Servitude. Blue also has lots of good 1 drops that can really help Jace's Phantasm/Delver of Secrets/Realmwright are a couple that come to mind. Izzet Charm would also work great at adding things into your grave when you want but also can be used as a counter/removal.

For card draw/discard I would go with Shattered Perception. It is better in my mind then Reforge the Soul/Wheel of Fortune since it just affects you and doesn't allow your opponents to dig for what they need. Desperate Ravings can work wonders in the right deck as could Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded but you would want more flashback options like Devil's Play for that type of setup. Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded is pretty fun to run with Cyclonic Rift, overload the Rift and kill them off with his -4!

I hope this helps GL!
Thanks a bunch Indigo! I definitely swapped in some Killing Wave and I like it ok. I am going to go with Shattered Perception too. didn't know about that card and it seems like the obvious fit I was missing. Here's an updated decklist.

Creatures: 14

Spells: 26
[deck]
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Faithless Looting
3x Orzhov Charm
4x Immortal Servitude
4x Unburial Rites
2x Killing Wave
2x Day of Judgment
[/deck]

Land: 20
[deck]
3x Rakdos Guildgate
3x Boros Guildgate
2x Orzhov Guildgate
4x Mountain
4x Swamp
4x Plains
[/deck]

Maybeboard/ Stuff I want to include:
+1 Vexing Devil
+2-4 Shattered Perception
+4 Terminate
+2-4 Barter in Blood
+1 Orzhov Charm

Thanks again for all the help. I really like this deck and I feel like there's not a ton of people doing it (everybody's on that Junk Reanimator right now). I really don't want to go 4 color, even though I could probably do better with Grisly Salvage in the deck.

Forbidden Alchemy is better in this deck then Grisly Salvage, being able to choose what you keep with no restriction is a pretty big upside in a Immortal Servitude deck.

Glad the suggestions helped, looks pretty solid to me .
If I cut white tho, I' be missing the flashback Unburial Rites which makes life so easy. I mean, I like that I can still just reanimate Utvara Hellkite and whoop face with it and I tend to try and reanimate Flayer to get those extra four points of damage. I'll look into Forbidden Alchemy though. Just worried about making it 4 colors...

I also feel like I need to identify the play style for this deck. When to loot, when not to. Probably should put no more than 6 lands into play, allowing me to abuse Faithless Looting more easily by discarding useless lands. Once I have enough on the field to hard-cast Flayer, Obzedat or Unburial Rites the land can just be discard fodder. that would also make Shattered Perception better, since I maintain a full grip.

so I'm going -3 Orzhov Charm in favor of Terminate. I just need more removal at any given point in the game and Orzhov charm is pretty back breaking when you have to use it to nerf a fatty. Also going -3 Typhoid Rats for +1 Vexing Devil and +2 Shattered Perception.

You might want to replace Terminate with Dreadbore, since dreadbore can also hit planeswalkers, unless regeneration is a concern.
actually regen has been kind of a pain in my local meta. My friend loves running Ring of Xathrid in his mono black deck and my other friends definitely play lots of regenerate. I would run Dreadbore for Walkers but they're still a bit pricey for me right now (since I still need another Vexing Devil) and I like the instant speed removal. Thanks for the input though, I feel like this deck could be really powerful if tweaked enough. I'd like to make something that isn't Jund/Junk/BUG/4c reanimator.

Perhaps Oblivion Ring over Terminate? would solve a lot of problems with non-creature permanents.

Also thinking about swapping Obzedat or Utvara Hellkite for something bigger. If I could reanimate Artisan of Kozilek with Flayer out, that would be 10 damage instead of trying to combo out with Immortal Servitude and a bunch of Vexing Devils. I like the Hellkite. My friends fear it and Obzedat, when combo'd correctly, nets 7 damage and +2 lifegain. I love Obzedat but I usually just keep flickering it and the grind is generally too slow.
