Light Shield & Sling

The sling is one handed, but requires a "free hand" to load. A light shield leaves the shield hand free "to hold another item, to climb, or the like. However, you can't use it to make attacks." Can you wield the sling while using a light shield? Thank you kindly.
Yes, loading a sling is not an attack.  Plus, from the description, I would rule that if you can climb with a light shield on one arm, you could certainly use that arm to load your sling.

OD&D, 1E and 2E challenged the player. 3E challenged the character, not the player. Now 4E takes it a step further by challenging a GROUP OF PLAYERS to work together as a TEAM. That's why I love 4E.

"Challenge" is overrated.  "Immersion" is usually just a more pretentious way of saying "having fun playing D&D."

"Falling down is how you grow.  Staying down is how you die.  It's not what happens to you, it's what you do after it happens.”

You can do pretty much anything with a shield wielding hand provided you don't attack. Loading is not attacking so you're fine.

Unless it's a heavy shield, which don't let you do things with your shield hand.

True. But we are discussing light shield + sling, not heavy shield.

Extra clarity is never bad.
