Altar's Reap + Geralf's Messenger

I've been putting together a UB Zombies deck and wanted to hear opinions of folks as to whether or not you think this is as good as I think it is:

[C]Altar's Reap[/C] + [C]Geralf's Messenger[/C]

Since Messenger is Undying, he'd come right back, opponent loses 2 and he gets a +1/+1 if it's the first time he's died. Even if it's not, having the opponent lose 2 AND I get to draw 2 cards? ...Money.

(I'm a newb, so I apologize if this is SUPER OLD news)
it's a neat combo
negating the drawback from Altar's Reap

now just find a way to remove that +1/+1 counter and you can do it all again :D

Branch into green for Zameck Guildmage and the ever popular Snapcaster Mage for some extra use outta reap.

Bit of work though and pulls away from the Zombie theme...and branches into green, probably easier ways to draw two cards on turn four in a UB deck.

I'd rather trade with Geralf's to activate Undying than sac him for the two card draw.  Or sac him to Bone Splinters.

Still, not a terrible combo.

[C]Altar's Reap[/C] can also work nicely with [C]Gravecrawler[/C] which I am running x4.
or you could just run Divination

Altar's Reap is mostly to "recycle" dying creatures
I wouldn't build a whole combo around it

If you're going to sacrifice undying creatures, Scarscale Ritual can complement Altar's Reap nicely. If you don't care about the instant part of Reap, there's also Skulltap, though being a sorcery is a big minus for it. Same goes for Ritual, but its cost isn't as severe.
Ya, I have some [C]Divination[/C] and [C]Think Twice[/C] at home but I use em in a Mill deck.

Enigma, I'd love to get your opinion on the Zombies I am working on:  community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

Scarscale is pretty sweet. Thanks for the tip!
I like a good Bioshift for my Messengers. Nothing like saccing one to Grimgrin for an untap and counter, moving the messenger's counter over to grimgrin, saccing him again, gaining another counter for Grimgrin, and then swinging.

Also Bioshift deals with things like Predator ooze or a Primordial Hydra really well assuming your opponent has another creature to slide counters onto.
