Todays GTC card to rate is...

Shadow Slice

5.0: First pick no matter what.  I will always play this card.
4.5: Splashable and first pick worthy.
4.0: First pick pack 1.
3.5: Early pick though not always a first pick.
3.0: Solid early/mid pick.
2.5: Solid pick in color.
2.0: Should generally make the deck if in this color.
1.5: Decent filler.
1.0: 23rd card if you have to.
0.5: This card will sometimes be sideboarded in.
0.0: I will never put this card into my deck (main deck or after sideboarding).

I didn't really like this card at first.  I'll admit I was wrong though, it's pretty decent.  It's certainly not a first pick type of card but it can help you win out of nowhere at times.

It deals damage, it makes other creatures deal more damage, it's more useful than most cipher cards.
This, plus extort, can close games out of nowhere. I've had a lot of success casting it on a Kingpins Pet or ever a screecher, and doing 9-10 damage (6 from Slice, 1-2 from creature, 2 from extort).

Man, I'm really torn on this one card.  On the one hand, it's 6 to the face most of the time when you cast it out.  On Deathcult, you chunk out nearly half their starting life total in the first swing alone usually.  So that's a huge plus.

On the other hand, it's expensive and slowish and although speeds up the clock, doesn't help you control the board if things are going sideways, or give you better board position.  I like my Dimir decks to be more controllish, or at least give me some options.  If you attack every turn to trigger it this really leaves a gaping hole.  For cipher, I'm much more a fan of Last Thoughs and Call of the Nightwing which can help you keep the board state in your favor.

That said, this will wheel, at least in my meta.  And I've never personally seen it work as intended.

Honestly I'd give it about a 1.5-2.  There are other things I'd wnat to do with 5 mana, but it's not a bad way to use that mana still.  Just not what I want going on.
2-2.5. It goes late considering how very powerful it is.

I'm leaning toward 2.0. It looks powerful, but has a lot of the same issues as Madcap Skills, comes into play much later and really needs an evasive target to be effective (Madcap Skills just needs a creature)
It generally does 6 damage on its first turn, plus 1 or 2 more from Extort.  However, it needs an evader and can often be 2-1ed.  Great in evasive decks, but far less in extorting or milling decks.  A tough card to grade.

2.0 to 2.5.
I'm kinda torn on this one. Would people play a 5 mana aura that says enchanted creature gets +3/+0 when it hits a player. Probably not, but it does an extra 3 damage the first turn you play it.... I've lost to this a lot, but i still think it's not really good.
It's a 2.0.

This was my 23rd card at GP Yokohama.

Sometimes it was good other times it wasn't.

The thing is, sometimes you need something like this in your deck, so don't overlook it.

I had three Dutiful Thrulls and routinely had this ciphered onto one which became kind of interesting because it was a 1/1 that really was a blocking priority and avoided removal pretty well with the regeneration ability.

This thing punched me in the gut pretty hard in a 64 man knockout style tourney where in the finals I lost to this thing ciphered to a Dimir Keyrune two straight games.
