Druid op

A friend of mine is going to roll up a druid for a campaign and he asked my advice. I gave him the standard natural spell answer, but there are definitely great options out there.

What are some ways to maximize wild shape? How about summoning?

He will be starting at level 2 and is leaning towards human. Ability scores haven't been rolled yet. Assume 28 on atm. Druids tend to be more SAD so other than his WIS, it shouldn't matter, right?

IIRC, Wis & Con are the only stats that matter after level 5.  The only thing generally better than a druid is a druid/wizard/arcane heirophant, but that can get nasty.  Easiest druid:

Human Druid
1) Spell Focus (Conjuration), Augmented Summoning
3) Extend Spell
6) Natural Spell

Honestly, he could take nothing but Toughness as his every other feat and be just fine.  I wouldn't recommend it, though.

I do, however, have one last lesson on this subject. That last one? The only build in this post that can one-shot average opponents[by dealing twice as much damage as they have HP? I would argue that it is not optimized. Why isn't it optimized? Because it's overkill. Overkill is NOT optimizing. This means that there are portions of this build dedicated to damage which can safely be removed and thrown elsewhere. For example, you probably don't need both Leap Attack AND Headlong Rush at the same time. You could pick up Extra Rage feats for stamina, feats to support AoO effects, feats that work towards potential prestige classes, and so on. However, you could also shift our ability scores around somewhat. I mean, if you're getting results like that with 16 starting Strength, maybe you can lower it to 14, and free up four points to spend somewhere else - perhaps back into Charisma, giving you some oomph for Intimidating Rage or Imperious Command if you want. You can continue to tune this until it deals "enough" damage - and that "enough" does not need to be "100%". It could easily be, say, 80% (leaving the rest to the team), if your DM is the sort who would ban one-hit killers.

So when do you think Bachmann will be saying she met a mother the previous night that had a son who got a blood transfusion using a gay guy's blood, and now the son is retardedly gay?
When she meets CJ's mom?

Quite simply, either druid 20 or Druid 10/Planar shepard 10, and then you really don't need to put any work into it. But, if you want, just maximize summoning and roflstomp.

Definitly check those links, if you find nothing useful just go to the players handbook and randomly run your finger up and down the feat list, where it stops get those feats. Improved feint still makes your druid better then the competition
I've not read the handbook at Minmax, but I do know the basics of druiding... I have never played one personally, however, and I don't know the ins and outs of maximizing Wild Shape and summoning...

The handbook will tell you all you want to know.

Minmaxing wild shape is largely a matter of having Natural Spell and reading animal entries. Some (such as the dire tortoise) contain some pretty sick surprises. Others (such as the big cats, bears, or the right dinosaurs) are more conventional choices. Some of the same things that make animal companions desirable also show up in wild shape (for instance, the fleshraker dinosaur - probably the best overall animal companion choice, at least in terms of effort it takes to get as big a bang - also makes a decent wild shape), but this tends to break down as your levels increase.

Minmaxing summoning is a bit trickier and can go in a number of ways depending on what you want to do. It's also discussed in the thread. (Examples: Ashbound, Greenbound Summoning, and Rashemi Elemental Summoning are all decent places to start a search). It typically doens't require much effort either, particularly if you stick to druid 20 or druid 10 / planar shepherd 10.

Seishi: I think it might be fun to have a one-off [game] tuned fairly, but with the intention of wiping the party.

DisposableHero_: if [my campaign] has taught me nothing else, it is that with this group, nothing tuned fairly will ever wipe the party

RadicalTaoist: I've been throwing **** at this group that's 5 levels over CRed in DFN, and have yet to wipe the party.

I already forwarded him to the handbook... It does indeed have all the info ever needed.

Some of them are LA+1 and then buy it off.
Course you're kinda restricted on wildshaping,
not that a Druid can't handle a little restricting.

Here comes your 19th forums breakdown ... ohh who's to blame, it ain't 5E driving you insane.

Did you mean to link a 4e topic?
When it comes to optimizing a character, I always look through the MinMax handbooks for possibilities. If nothing else, no one insults you for doing it.

If he needs advice to play a druid, then going Arcane Hierophant isn't a good idea. An AH can be more powerful than straight druid, but only if played well. Straight druid is always a powerhouse.

5e should strongly stay away from "I don't like it, so you can't have it either."

I once asked the question (in D&D 3.5) "Does a Druid4/Wizard3/ArcaneHierophant1 have Wildshape?". Jesse Decker and Andy Collins: Yes and the text is clear and can't be interpreted differently. Rich Redman and Ed Stark: No and the text is clear and can't be interpreted differently. Skip Williams: Lol, it's worded ambiguously and entirely not how I intended it. (Cust. Serv. Reference# 050815-000323)

i love druids , but never heard of a way playing arcane hierophant in a powerlevel same to druid. can some1 clarify for me, how the "good" way to play AH is?
