Gideon's Lawkeeper when can this card use its ability.
Activated abilities (such as gideon's lawkeeper's ability) can be activated any time you could cast an instant, unless they explicitly say otherwise.

If you wish to use the ability to prevent a creature from attacking, your last chance to do so is in the Beginning of Combat step. To stop a creature from blocking, your last chance is in the Declare Attackers step.

Like most activated abilities, you can use it whenever you have priority and can pay the cost.  Each player will get priority at least once in each step/phase of the turn except for untap step and usually cleanup step.

Also, since Gideon's Lawkeeper's ability includes a cost of , you must have had control of it since the start of your last turn.

I have started up a Draft experiment in the Limited forums. If you're interested in Draft, come and check it out.

(It will go on for many more weeks, probably until end of July)

Once again aced the Rules Advisor test (Feb 2015). (I still make mistakes now and then, but who doesn't.)

"Simple questions" usually need rather complex answers, while complex questions often come down to no more than a simple "yes" or "no".

Ack! I usually try to be precise with my phrasing. Thank you for fixing that.
