Question about Redirect Shot

I have a question about the "redirect shot", Jedi talent. After the shot is redirected, would it still retain any aditional effects it might have, such as from "debilitating shot" or "knockdown shot"?
I don't believe so.  I'm AFB right now, but I believe the text of Redirect Shot simply states that damage is dealt.  I don't recall any mention of special effects.  I'll check later and post again unless someone beats me to it.

It says this: "May redirect a blaster bolt at another target. Once per round, when successfully deflected, make an immediate ranged attack against another target in line of sight. Apply normal ranged penalties as if bolt started with you. If the attack succeeds, it deals normal weapon damage. Only single bolts may be redirected, not autofire, barrages, or other types of projectiles."

"normal weapon damage" to me means no extra effects like Debilitating Shot or Knockdown Shot.

Alright, just checking.
I would just love for our Gunslinger to get knocked prone by her own shot, so I was holding out hope. haha

Thank you very much! I always follow the way of the Cheddar Monk.

Also, I must agree. Corran Horn is the man.
Most of those things are also going to be benefits of the shooter directed against a specific target.  While the Jedi couldn't Redirect and keep those thing IF he had a similar ability it may be usable; the issue here is what effects could be applied as part of reflective attack.

Nope, you don't get any of those benefits. The only benefit you might get is if the weapon you are redirecting is a splash weapon, then your redirected shot will deal the splash damage (provided of course you exceed the primary target's Reflex).

@StevenO so if a character with the redirect talent also had the debilitating shot talent and the knockdown shot talent, would his redirected shot also have those effects, since he has the talents himself?

Almost certainly NOT.

The reason there is simply because the jedi is simply redirecting a shot and those talents require the character to "aim" before they become active.  Now maybe I'd let the jedi "aim" for a redirection during his own turn but then there is also the little issue of weapon types those things can be used for a "ranged attack" doesn't qualify unless it is made with a pistol or rifle as per errata.  A "lightsaber" can't be used with Dibilitating Shot or Knockdown shot.

Now I guess a jedi could apply something like Dastardly Strike to the redirected attack assuming the new target qualifies.  That talent isn't weapon specific and also doesn't require any special actions on the user's part to trigger.

StevenO, what the heck happened to your face? Have you turned to the dark side or something? It really startled me.

What, I decided to put up a current photo for my profile.  It's a self portrait I taken with a remote trigger in a dark room where the only light is provided by two lightsabers!  If I was ambitious and loaded the original into my account you could even see them reflected in my eyes.

I could also have gone with the blue lightsaber instead of crossing purple and red or maybe I should have tried for one with the green lightsaber.

Oh, and don't forget my thoughts on the Force are a lot more 'grey' then others.  Someone nicely compared me to a Jacen Solo after the NJO and some may know how that turns out.

It's just that normal picture which you've been using for years that I've gotten used to was so laid-back. Now you suddenly look evil. It's like you went from rules lawyer to Sith Lord. It nearly made me jump out of my chair. I was just caught off guard is all.

Put aren't all Sith Lords Rules Lawyers?  After all the best of them use every loop hole they can find to amass power.  Considering some of the hostility I've had directed at some of my posts (more on the DnD:PE then here) a little "initimidation" may be in order.

You should also consider that the "red" could be from the hostile lightsaber and that it may be closer to the face  then the weapon I am holding.  Of course a purple blade also shows up with a lot of red in it.

That kind of attitude is absent on the D&D boards. Look up posts from September on the D&D boards and you'l see what I mean.

It's certainly not you and generally isn't on these (SW) boards unless I count certain people rejecting my supporting statements against some houserules.  It more some posters on the DnD:PE board including one that needs to play at %110 and anything less is to be put down and another one who is often impossible to understand, takes the smallest snippet of a rule and applies it universally, and is generally impossible to reason with on any level.
I didn't think that rejecting someone's input is hostility.  Putting it down however, definitely is, and that's what I see over at the DnD forums, even in threads that are all about fluff and lore, people get really angry over there it seems.

If I offended you for rejecting your statements StevenO, I apologize.

Sounds like a colorful bunch, to put it mildly. I must say the people on these Saga boards are civil towards each other (except maybe for that Edge of the Empire vs. Saga thread, which is getting pretty heated). But that's normal. You can have strong opinions about something and not express it way that is offensive. Many times I will reread what I wrote before I submit my post, and if it sounds too harsh, I'll delete some stuff. Or I'll edit my post after reading it. Finally, sometimes I need to learn that it's ok to disagree and not everyone needs to see things my way.

I didn't think that rejecting someone's input is hostility.

I guess it depends on how it's expressed. You can offer a dissenting opionion in a respectful way, or you can attack the person and shoot him down with your words, making feel like a complete moron. Then again, it's hard to convey tone with written text. There's no voice or facial expression or body language to help convey the true meaning of your words. So I suppose it comes down to choice of words.

If I offended you for rejecting your statements StevenO, I apologize.

It's too late, he's already turned to the dark side, and there is no mercy among the Sith! Haha!

I hid my comments which were based on observation of things in the book.  I have gone as far as deleting entire posts myself when it is apparent they don't do any good and even stay out of certain threads.

When you mention the DnD forums are you refering to the 4e, DnDnext, and/or Previous Editions forum?  I know I didn't "update" to the latest set but the PE forums were actually pretty civil until a couple members came along and stirred up all kinds of mayhem.  I think I've seen one member get hit by temporary bans three or four times from a single thread and have also had several of my posts moderated for some unknown reason.

StevenO's new pic is cool. it does intimidate a bit, which is more in line with, say, having Ras Al'Ghul's picture as your profile (or was that Qui-Gonn?).
I am not entirely sure, I think it was the PE forums though, I don't really check them, I just click on the "recent topics" threads which appear on the side of the page.

Ok well as noting that this forum got completely off track, I will ask an actual question regarding Redirect shot. Is the roll for Deflect shot made before or after the attack roll is annouced to see if it was a hit or not? If it is made after an attack has confirmed hit, is it possible to deflect and redirect a missed shot?

I think you can declare use of Deflect after you see what the attack roll is.

As for redirecting a missed shot, you should be able to do so. According to Deflect's description, the UtF DC is the result of the attack roll you want to negate. So let's say you have a Ref of 20, and the attack against you is 10. The attack misses you, but as long as you succeed a UtF check of 10, you can Deflect the attack and Redirect it.

Interesting, but you still can't redirect more then 1 shot per turn, right? If you could, that would be a great help against getting shot at from some distances.

Considering that the attack roll set the UtF DC to use Deflect it seems to me that you should "know the number" before electing to use Deflect or not.

You can only Redirect Shot once per round maximum. However, you can Deflect as many times per round as you like. However, you take a -5 UtF penalty for every extra Deflect attempt. The Shii-Cho and Soresu lightsaber form talents help a lot with these penalties. Also, certain lightsaber form powers can be of additional protection, such as Shien Deflection.

Getting shot at from a distance is a jedi’s worst nightmare. A jedi is powerful at short range, not long range. That’s why most of the time, you see jedi taking cover when getting shot at. Also, if there’s no way to reach your attackers, dropping prone imposes a -5 attack penalty against you. Then you can either use Redirect Shot once per round and pick off your enemies that way. Or you’ll have to find a way to move in closer.
