Duskmantle Seer Deck

Some deck theory on how to use [C]Duskmantle Seer[/C]. Some cards are crucial to shape on how much damage you  take or the oppponet takes on the next few turns ([C]Index[/C] [C]Dimir Charm[/C]. While other cards are effiecent creatures that are able to race the opponent ([C]Delver of Secrets[/C]). In my creatures section I am trying to find a good balance of Shape vs. Damage. Each one is necessary in either shaping the decks in my favor or racing the opponent. Any advice would be appreciated.

[C]Augur of Bolas[/C] x3 (Shape)

It's a neat idea. I don't think it will work in its current form though. It seems like Duskmantle Seer would work best in a Delver deck that is full of countermagic and bounce. I like this shell, with Augur, Snapcaster, Delver and Seer. Keep those creatures and fill the rest of the deck with efficient instants. Removal, counterspells, and bounce. You really need at least 20 instants and sorceries to get enough Delver flips.
Some cards to think about:
Unsummon
Ultimate Price
Spell Rupture
Dissipate
Grow old or die trying.
Just made the changes suggested by fedluir, (thanks btw). Any thoughts?
Honestly, I don't see Duskmantle Seer even being playable in current standard. The decks you'll face will are mostly curve-conscience aggro decks who's primary weakness is the lack of card draw they have.
2:25 PM sneakattackkid: my basics are worth more... 5:21 PM Nighthavk_: I was splitting more 8-4s than a hooker splits her legs. 11:42 PM Nighthavk_: because honestly, your opponent may be caw, but he'll probably be a drooling idiot who just found out porn exists.
With the amount of Agro decks being played aswell, I can't help but think Seer will only end up helping the opponent more than hindering them.

Have you considered combining his card draw with discard to negate the opponents card advantage you give them?

Aggro decks suffer from 'burning' out. You are giving them card draw like others say and that's bad in general. BUT if you can get them to take damage for their high CMC cards with Dimir Charm and the Seer AND discard their cards it might be ok. But it seems like too many pieces need to be in place.

The seer is cool but this doesn't seem like the deck he wants to be in.

What about a Grixis Delver/Burn shell?  Delvers, Snapcasters, Pillar of Flame, Searing Spear, Mizzium Mortars, etc.  Against aggro decks your burn out all their creatures, Seer draws you into more burn while you're swinging for the win.  Against control you come out swinging and burning their face, and by the time Seer comes out the extra cards they flip will hopefully kill them.
I've been mulling this over and I think I will update the list to have more discard and maybe a little less counter. Will edit right now.
I think the propper place for the Seer is in a cube right now. I'm willing to bet that sometime before he rotates a few cards will come out or be re-printed that will make his deck viable.

Yea, the cards right now aren't the best for him, but I am hoping that Dragon's Maze may make this deck viable.
I'd test Spell Rupture.  It's at least a Miscalculation most of the time.  It was played as often as Mana Leak
If your heart is set on running Duskmantle Seer it is a good idea to run him with Vampire Nocturnus so you can see top card and also with Codex Shredder so if you don't want the take the damage from that top card you can get rid of it.

Vampire Nocturnus also punches you for 4 if you draw it during your upkeep, and I'm not convinced Codex Shredder is a card that should be played in Constructed Standard.

Use Dimir Charm instead of Codex Shredder which is basically unplayable.

I have pretty much given up on Duskmantle Seer until DGM comes out. I have tried Esper, Grixis, and BUG versions of Duskmantle decks (with Duskmantle topping out the curve in all of them in order to avoid taking too much damage off of him).

All of my builds have basically fallen flat on their faces. Although I still hold out hope that some sort of deck with him is possible, abusing low cost high impact stuff like Deathrite Shaman

Use one-mana creatures, utility lands, and Immortal Servitude.

I'm terribly shocked that Thrull Parasite and Orzhov Charm haven't made an impact on standard. Marginal advantage that accompanies great flexibility are hallmarks of a good deck in the works. I haven't given up on Duskmantle Seer, but I think we all need to get "ermahgerd Beros Reckoner certners Thergtersk" out of our collective systems.

This is basically what I did (well, none of my lists included Immortal Servitude).

Just for future reference.

Left the mana and SB out of them, since the mana bases generally build themselves, and SBs vary so much from local meta to local meta.

That's Esper, Grixis, and BUG, and all have been pretty meh in testing. My next move will likely be to try some 4-5 color monstrosity, but I doubt that is going to do any better than any of my other previous 3 builds.

Edit: Made some changes to the Grixis and BUG builds, since I confused myself and mixed up a few of the cards between the two builds while I was typing all of these out.
"I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am a God."
I tried Duskmantle Seer in a BUG shell that aimed to have him out on turn 3, but without playing bad ramp cards (Farseek: Good ramp card, but a ramp card, so bad. With Seer you want a low curve so Farseek isn't doing much else.) The only passable card that fit this role was Deathrite Shaman. Here was my plan:

Turn 1: Shaman
Turn 2: Thought Scour/Grisly Salvage (to find Seer and hopefully bin a land)
Turn 3: Seer

From there, you should be revealing lower cost cards than them, and you have a 4/4 beater. Liliana of the Veil works wonders with Seer by letting you cast your card and making them discard their freshly drawn creature before they can cast it.

This deck worked fine, with nothing to complain about. I've moved on to other endeavors. However, someone went 4-0 in a Daily Event just a bit ago with Grixis Seer:

Scroll down a bit to find the list!
"Orzhov Charm [hasn't] made an impact on Standard yet."
