I've been wondering for a while, and this seems as good a time as any to ask.  What's the range on the Eclipse-class's Superlaser?

I'd say it has the range of "plot" because if used it should be a key part of an adventure.

If you're actually looking for numbers I'd be starting with double turbolaser range or just use Turbolaser Range but with a greatly extended long range.

I could count on one hand how many times I have actually had ranged combat on the character scale outside of the point blank range.  It just doesn't happen too often it seems.   What are some of the easiest ways to incorporate long ranged blaster fights into a campaign?  Sniper ambush?

Snipers work.  You typically have them at least 60 squares off the main combat area. Another way would be to have enemies shooting at them across a long chasm where they're incapable of closing distance with the enemy and have to fight at short or medium range.  Long range if you have a huge chasm.  Or perhaps the people attacking the PCs decieved a person into helping them and got a guy to menace them with a blaster while they hid slightly farther away and started to open fire upon the PCs from a farther range.
Thanks, I think the chasm idea might be the easiest besides a sniper ambush.

Snipers are one way and can work better when they is some movement barrier between the shooter and the sniper.  You really could work to promote long range character scale fights by fighting in a more open arena.

An "issue" with SAGA is that it is meant to be played on a grid but unfortunately that grid, often done using something sized for minis, is usually a bit confining.  Expanding the grid can bring in so much area that the potential of detailing all of it become daunting.  Now to make long range work you may need to expand your horizons and thinking a little.  I say sketch out a battlefield that is "zoomed out" enough to give you range to work with that includes the big things.  If needed you can detail the area the PCs or shooter are in but if you just leave things relatively general you can fill in the details as needed and save some work.

Another problem with Range are SAGA's (and actual DnD's as well) rules regarding spotting.  I mean you can easily get such a big penalty to spot that you can't "see" someone who is easily within weapon range.  Admittedly this can happen in real life as well but then some kind of cover or other distraction is needed but is SAGA you could miss the spot check to see someone standing in the middle of an open plain.

A last point for now.  While character scale combats rarely use many range increments you probably SHOULD try to make full use of range when dealing with starship scale combat.  I mean if you consider how quickly two capital ships can destroy each other using weapon batteries at "can't miss" ranges it should be obvious that they often will want to stick with long range fire if they feel they have the upper hand in that exchange.  It also means fighters need to move really close to get good shots in
