Lonspear

I noticed monk was added longspear as one of their weapon proficiencies and that longspear was downgraded from a d10 to a d8 die, while no benefit was given to it.  Anybody think this was to become a finesse weapon, or is the polearm an extremely suboptimal choice for a monk?
Not really, taken its the only reach weappon available to the monk and the most damaging melee one.

It hardly seems like a tradeoff, seeing as one would have to invest strength to make it viable for use.  A higher damage die and the reach option doesn't seem to justify making your character extremely MAD.

It's still an interesting option to have. Monks in 3.5 had lots of weapons they were able to flurry with, but next to no one used them. However, they occasionally came in very handy. Helps keep you out of reach of those pesky zombies.
