Jenna Helland to no longer pen Vorthos column

Yep, looks like her time on Uncharted Realms is up.

I wouldn't be surprised if she periodically wrote more articles, though. I mean, we get new authors for this column all the time. And hey, maybe she's working on a novel! I can dream, right? :P

Adam Lee is taking over. Thoughts?

Oh, and we already probably know one guest author: Brady tells us that we can expect something more about the Simic from him in a few weeks. I am... so pumped. I'm just full of +1/+1 counters right now. Momir Vig comes up to me on the street with a big trench coat* and is like "Yo dawg, wanna buy some plax?" and I'm like, "Nah, I'm already basically as pumped as my body could possibly allow for," and he's like "WELL THEN WE SHALL BUILD YOU A BETTER BODY NYAHAHAHAHA."

*dude fell on hard times after the whole Kraj thing fell through, I guess

I'm pumped.

I guess he could be writing something about the Simic for a different column. Seems kind of unlikely, though.

A giant needle in the face will do that.

And I'm okay with Adam taking over. The Great Concourse was a solid piece, even if portions could have stood an editor.
I just seriously hope they update his top pic, because it is NOT flattering at all and his profile pic there is substantially better.
What I want to know is, what is this other project Jenna is working on?

Hmmm......
*dreeeeeeam bubble*

Good news everyone!
I've weaponized flavor!
*flavor gun*
EVERYTHING TASTES GREEEEEEEEEEN
Flavour has gone through more writters than any other collumn.

Not necessarily a bad thing.
Yeah, it strikes me as fitting for a shared universe like this.

I imagine flavour's the hardest column to write. You have to skkirt the edge of what's officially consideed cannon and what can berevealed to the public even as the flavour itself is being finalized. Gotta avoid definative answers that cut off potential avenues for future stories... Also it's just a lot of writing.
Ah, well. I felt her first few pieces were really outstanding but the quality dipped later on. Maybe it has something to do with the earlier stories mostly being one shots set in places WOTC wasn't really doing anything with at the time.

No more writing than any of the other articles. Though it might just be more creatively taxing, I will say that.

And the thing is, there is a TON of flavor and canon we just don't get to hear about. There's actually no gag order on revealing that, and besides that, you're allowed a LOT of leeway to just make stuff up. A prime example came from Matt Cavotta back in the day with his article "The Incredible Hulk" in which he blatantly made stuff up. What he said became canon, but when questioned about it he admitted that it hadn't existed before and he was just basically making it up on the spot.

Aside from that, the flavor material for whatever you're writing has been finalized for over a year and a half. It's been the in can for ages.
The only thing of her's that I found a little bit off was her genesis story for Kaalia

@mikemearls The office is basically empty this week, which opens up all sorts of possibilities for low shenanigans

@mikemearls In essence, all those arguments I lost are being unlost. Won, if you will. We're doing it MY way, baby.

@biotech66 aren't you the boss anyway? isn't "DO IT OR I FIRE YOU!" still an option?

@mikemearls I think Perkins would throat punch me if I ever tried that. And I'd give him a glowing quarterly review for it.

Honestly, this is a non-story to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love Jenna and her writing.  However, to be honest, it wasn't really her column for the most part.  It's a shared column written by the creative team whenever one has something to put out.  It may mean a lower percentage of the columns are hers, but I don't think we're going to effectively notice a big change long term.

Best of luck to her, and everyone else on creative!

Aww, I thought she's going to be a mainstay on this. Frown

At least there's some clarification that she's working on something (is she really? DUN DUN DUN ), hope that it's something along the line in developing a set ala-Innistrad.

I might get slammed for this, but I wasn't a fan of her column. However, I do hope for more Murder Girl.

BURN THE HERETIC!
Okay, sorry. In all seriousness: why didn't you like it?

After the official forums lost most of their functionality, a once vibrant community of Vorthos was wiped out.The survivors founded a new place to discuss all things concerning with the art, flavor and storylines of Magic: The Gathering. Come join us.

Good point. The last time she was on an actual set team the results were some of the most flavorful we've seen in years.

Yeah, no matter where Jenna is working, we're going to benefit :D
