one you tap the chapel for a mana, does that mana become permanent?
Can you use the tap for multiple turns to keep the tapped mana gain going?
Your question makes no sense.

It operates just like most lands, you tap it and  you get one mana (either white or black)

you aren't smart replying with "your question makes no sense"... it makes complete sense with a quesiton needing an answer because of the fact being that I do not know if the mana gained from the tap of Isolated Chapel remains permanent!
The mana you get from Isolated Chapel works like all other mana. It empties at the end of each step and each phase.

Perhaps you are confusing land and mana. Isolated Chapel does not give you a plains or a swamp. It makes either white or black mana when tapped.

Mana is NOT land. Land is NOT mana.

Mana is the magical energy used to cast spells and use abilities. It most often comes from lands, but calling a "plains" is sort of like calling a block of cheese a cow. Something that says "Add to your mana pool" does not create a Plains or anything like that, it has the same effect as tapping a Plains. In fact, that is the exact same ability a Plains has - look at older basic lands from the first few sets, and that is what will be printed on them.

Now do you understand why your initial question made no sense?

This is what plains really do:

WotC doesn't print the abilty on basic lands anymore, but it's there.

this is a Plains
it is a basic land
it produces white mana ()
it does not put other lands on the field

this is a Swamp
it is a basic land
it produces black mana ()
it does not put other lands on the field

this is an Isolated Chapel
it is a land
it produces its controller's choice of white mana () or black mana ()
it does not put other lands on the field

this is an Evolving Wilds
it is a land
it does not produce mana
it does put other lands on the field

this is an Esper Panorama
it is a land
it can produce colourless mana ()
it can also put land on the field

this is a Marsh Flats
it is a land
it does not produce mana
it does put other lands on the field

now do you understand how your question doesn't make sense?
Isolated Chapel is like a Plains and a Swamp fused together and it does exactly the same thing that they do, except it has a drawback that it enters tapped if you don't already have a swamp or plains on the field.
