PsiCrystal & Metamorphosis & Share Powers = Twins?

I was wandering how viable it would be to have the PsiCrystal as a front line fighter? From reading the forums I know it gets feats and has BAB of 3/4. But it doesn't seem to have a damage value so is it a typical unarmed, which is 1d3 as i recall?

To offset this I was thinking of grabbing Metamorphosis for myself and using the share power ability of the crystal to turn us into some creature for heavy hitting. I was wandering how well this might work and even thinking if I turn the crystal into a humanoid creature could I give it equipment? I'm thinking of making an item of permanent metamorphosis using psionic crafting rules so that the crystal can stay in the other form. Thus making it effectively a permanent companion.

Also I don't have the book with me right now but I recall something along the lines of as a move action you can order the psicrystal to grow legs and move to a location. This makes me wander do I effectively have to use up my own actions to have the Psicrystal do things once it's transformed into something else?

Any suggestions on making this a viable build if it's even possible would be of help.

Share Powers (Su): At the owner’s option, he can have any power (but not any psi-like ability) he manifests on himself also affect his psicrystal. The psicrystal must be within 5 feet of him at the time of the manifestation to receive the benefit. If the power has a duration other than instantaneous, it stops affecting the psicrystal if it moves farther than 5 feet away, and will not affect the psicrystal again, even if it returns to its owner before the duration expires.
Additionally, the owner can manifest a power with a target of “You” on his psicrystal (as a touch range power) instead of on himself. The owner and psicrystal cannot share powers if the powers normally do not affect creatures of the psicrystal’s type (construct).

Then if you use it in your Psicrystal you still need stay at 5fts from him and you will also be target of the enemy, now the Hp of your Psicrystal still is 1/2 your Hp then dont help to mush a powerful creature with 40 Hps

About to send it alone

Self-Propulsion (Su): As a standard action, its owner can will a psicrystal to form spidery, ectoplasmic legs that grant the psicrystal a land speed of 30 feet and a climb speed of 20 feet. The legs fade into nothingness after one day (or sooner, if the owner desires).

So basically if I use it as a "shared power" to transform us both we are stuck next to each other or it wears off for the Psicrystal? But the second part makes me think I can simply cast it on the Psicrystal directly having only it benefit from the metamorphisis, in which case the Psicrystal could move away from me after transforming.

And the Self Propulsion I just remembered incorrectly. It takes the action to grant movement, but after that it can move on it's own.

While I will admit the Psicrystal does have low HP, since it's 1/2 of yours. But it also has hardness which should help negate some of the damage it is taking, thus making it a more viable tank.

yes if you manifest the power direct in your psicryatal him can go to try to tank the enemies but if you do that, change the psiclystal for some creature with many DR or great AC because her HP will be low and if you psicrystal is destroyed you going to lost EXP.

Everything you say here except "permanent metamorphosis" is actually pretty straightforward. (In general, I don't like "Items of permanent [badass spell effect]" from either a design or gameplay standard.

The psicrystal always gets its own actions, even without legs, although what it does without Self Propulsion (or Share Powers when transformed).

The "viable" build on this was always hypothetical as no one I know worked on it except as a concept, but it's called The Big Guy Is With Me. I think Phaedrus did a more battle-ready version on BG.
EDIT: Yes, he did. It borders a bit more on the theoretical though.

And this is one of many reasons why we ignore Oma. His advice is almost never based on a good understanding of the rules. (Note how he brings up XP loss for psicrystal death when there is no such rule? Seriously, "what happens when your psicrystal dies?" is one of the single most frequently asked questions about the system, and has been since 2004.)

You're right: Share Powers has two functions. One, you hit yourself and your adjacent psicrystal at once. This form ends for your psicrystal if he moves more than 5' away (hint: Metamorphosis + mount). Two, you hit JUST your adjacent psicrystal with a personal power (an exception for the normal range). This one lasts until the power wears off, regardless of where you are.

And the Self Propulsion I just remembered incorrectly. It takes the action to grant movement, but after that it can move on it's own.

It can actually act on its own before that, but it is somewhat limited. You CAN actually fit it with some magic items to begin with (as a creature it technically has the same body slots as other creatures), but without those or advanced magic it is best used, perhaps, to make active Spot and Listen checks on your behalf.

While I will admit the Psicrystal does have low HP, since it's 1/2 of yours. But it also has hardness which should help negate some of the damage it is taking, thus making it a more viable tank.

Psicrystals already form a huge part of the psionic tank fundamentals. First, its HP are half of yours, and it has HARDNESS 8 (which blocks everything that doesn't explicitly skip hardness). Second, Share Powers lets it double up on effects like Vigor - 1PP for +10 HP across the two of you is very good. Third, Share Pain between you and the crystal. Any effect that hits you is cut in half, with the half not hitting you going to your psicrystal... and since empathic damage doesn't skip hardness, it's reduced by 8 before it hits your psicrstal. Then, any leftover damage is simply put to your temporary HP. Psionic characters can be incredible damage sponges this way (made even more potent through DR effects in melee or through Damp Power or Intellect Fortress against magical damage - bonus points if your team has both of them on two separate characters.).

Be advised that it will lose its hardness if you Metamorphose it though.

Cancer prognosis: I am now cancer-free.

RadicalTaoist: I've been throwing **** at this group that's 5 levels over CRed in DFN, and have yet to wipe the party.

First the Cristal is Fine, all going to hit the Psionic.

Second right he can manifest Vigor in the Psicrystal but he need waste the power in the Psicrystal and then change the Psicrystal with Metamorphose and with this you waste 2 actions

"Your type and subtype (if applicable) change to match the new form." no longer construct
You also gain all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form (such as constrict, improved grab, and poison) but do not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form (such as blindsense, fast healing, regeneration, and scent) or any supernatural, psionic, or spell-like abilities

"You keep all extraordinary special attacks and special qualities derived from class levels, but you lose any benefits of the racial traits of your normal form." goodbye Hardness"
