That +1/+1 counters deck

Now with corpsejack menace, fencing ace, and grisly salvage (not just a scavenge enabler, it also finds good cards like menace and township). But the important parts of the deck are the same. This is not the greatest mana base in the world (it's just a tribute).

What do you think?
Your mana base does indeed not look good at all. This is what, 4 colors? You don't even have Lingering Souls or other token generators, which is where you want to use Gavony Township. Not for single targets.

I recommend committing either to Township Tokens without Red or Jund (BRG) without the White, focusing more on building up single targets. Right now it is a disaster with your mana base; you have only 1 land to cast Dragon on turn 1.
Standard Pauper! (play it on MTGO)
Yes I agree. Your chances of drawing the Rakdos Guildgate, Miuntain and Slumbering Dragon together are very low.
U instead should put in 4 copies of Chromatic Latern to aid in your mana base. Maybe Abundant Growth too.

I was browsing through some cards in gatherer and I noticed something really odd - the transforming cards from Innistrad like Mayor of Avabruck have separate comments and ratings for each side. Isn't that totally stupid? It feels as senseless as having two different pages for each side of a split card or having different pages for Nimble Mongoose with and without threshold.

NON-AGGRO, NON-MONO RED deck (Not getting very far with it though)

Standard mono red deck for FNM next Friday

I like Hunger of the Howlpack better than blessings of nature, mostly because it's an instant and you can play combat tricks. The blessings I like but with 4 you might end up waiting a while to cast one in hand. I'd knock em down to 3. Travel preparations looks cool too....but I don't like it for reasons I'll state later.

I'd up the Slitherheads to 4. If they die they help you with counters, for free, if they don't die, they're a target to get counters put on them. They can also feed a hunger of the howlpack.

Lotleth Troll. He seems real good but maybe he doesn't have much synergy here. You'd be dumping creatures to give him counters and if he dies...all gone. So maybe not.

I would go black/red and green for +1 counter spells with this type of deck but those are just my color preferences. I like the attempt with the slumbering dragon. It just seems cool.

You could use Markov Blademaster instead of the white double striker...maybe. But you'd need to make room for green spells too....the hunger of the howlpack is nice with Bloodflow Connoisseur....but she comes out a little late for my tastes now that I think about it. At turn 2 she'd be killer.

I think you'll need drawing power so maybe...faithless looting or desperate ravings?

Anyway,

-4  Fencing Ace

-4 Grisly Salvage

-4 Sewage Shambler

-4 Blessings of Nature

+1 Slitherhead

+4  Hunger of the Howlpack

+2 Chromatic Lanterns....although if you cut one color maybe you can get rid of these.

+4  Bloodflow Connoisseur

+4 Faithless Looting

What do you think?

If your manabase is strong then Death's Presence seems like a powerhouse anyway. I'd throw in 2 if the lanterns look like they can be cut.
Bloodflow + Howlpack is an interesting idea but I don't think I have enough creatures I actually want to sacrifice especially if you're cutting the shamblers. And without bloodflow, there isn't enough chance of getting morbid to make howlpack worth it. Blessings gets the dragon one counter off from waking up, and it shouldn't be too hard to get the last one (township, slitherhead or someone attacking me) so I feel like it's worth it even if it does cost five mana.

Faithless Looting is a nice card but I think salvage is better for draw because there is no card disadvantage, and it also goes one deeper.

Death's Presence is a card I could design a whole deck around (and I have before) but this is not its perfect fit. Could be cool as a 1-of. But if I don't use that then I don't have reason to bring in more chromatic lanters as I'm not ramping into anything.

Lotleth Troll is a cool idea, good defensive card and gives ways to discard scavengers. I'll have to see where I can fit it in.

@flopfoot, I like your explanation for the cards. They make more sense than my reasons for using them.

if you can't afford the lands, then you have no business playing 4 colors.

First: I've read nothing in this thread and I've only read the title.

That said, why build a deck centered around 1/1 counters when Unsummon and Azorious charm are still such a thing?

Now y'all being condescending. You think I don't know that creatures die to removal? Also the mana works fine.
you still haven't addressed the fact taht you're trying to play 4 colors with no duals

In this meta, your statement requires some evaluation.

Your creatures not only die to removal, they require investment before that removal happens. When the removal comes, you lose the creature plus a buttload of tempo and possibly some card advantage depending on which tricks you used.

Thragtusk is in your colors and not only doesn't die to removal, he gains you value simply by hitting the table.

So, yes, they are right in pointing out that your deck is particularly weak to removal.

I hate to be that guy, but even if this deck deserves to exist somewhere, it doesn't deserve to exist in four colors.
