[Developing] GLASS Control

GLASS= Gold Lands and Suicidal Spells.

In a nut shell I plan to almost kill myself and use life totals below 5 to benefit from cards like Death's Shadow and Convalescent Care.
Cards like Island Sanctuary and other Moat effects in tandem with Tree of Redemption and maybe something to give me shroud will help with not folding to Lightning Bolt. Below I will provide lists of cards for each purpose that I have found/considered so far. Any input in terms of their power level, wether or not they should be included, and any card suggestions would be great.

Reasons to hurt myself:

Near-Death Experience (doubtful due to cost, but one-card-combo)
Death's Shadow
Convalescent Care
Second Chance
Gather the Townsfolk
Timely Reinforcements

Ways to be the only one hurting myself:

Faith's Shield
Island Sanctuary
Tree of Redemption
Fog/Clinging Mists (doubtful)
True Believer
Witchbane Orb
Propaganda/Ghostly Prison

Ways to hurt myself:

Ancient Tomb (doubtful)
Boseiju, Who Shelters All (doubtful)
City of Brass
Tarnished Citadel
Gitaxian Probe
Dark Confidant (doubtful. may turn out to be overkill. plus I don't have any)
Sign in Blood/Night's Whisper
Thoughtseize
(And obviously being attacked)

Now, I know it seems janky and terrible. But it's got a few things going for it. It can run anything it wants to in the sideboard due to using gold land, really only Dredge has had that kind of flexibilty. Convalescent Care provides pretty nice CA in addition to helping prevent you overboard and keeping Tarnished Citadel online in the late game.

If you really think it can't be made competitive I understand. If you want to tell me that then provide an explanation as to why you think so. This would be more helpful than telling me to play another deck, telling me lightning bolt kills you at 3 life, or just saying it's not competitive and leaving.
Seems like it would be really slow.  That's a lot of set up just to run stay at 5 life.  Why not just drop a Form of the Dragon and try to lock out burn/flying creatures?  You can managed that if fewer card interactions (Honden of Seeing Winds + Solitary Confinement).

Someone on MTG salvation said the same about Form of the Dragon. Is there even a way to get it out in legacy?
Show and Tell, Academy Rector, rituals.  Of course, all of these things are better used for other purposes...
Yeah, that's why I didn't mention those in the first place. I can see that FotD would be great to have but reinforcements and convalescent care gain life. Along with Tree of Redemption sorta. Should I put together a rough draft deck list?
I know you're creating this list out of budgetary concerns, but unfortunately most of those mentioned cards have fringe-playability at best.  The problem is most of those cards are do-nothings and are "good" under very narrow conditions.  For example, how would you beat the following hands?

"Tropical Island, Delver of Secrets, Wasteland, Wasteland, Daze, Spell Pierce, Stifle"
"Island, Ancient Tomb, Show and Tell, Omniscience, Emrakul, Force of Will, Blue Card"
"Underground Sea, Entomb, Animate Dead, Reanimate, Daze, Thoughtseize, Polluted Delta"

I'd imagine these matchups, along with vs Dredge, Storm and then tier 2 decks like Elves, Affinity are all unfavorable.

In the "losing life for advantage" vein, Gerry Thompson had some success with this U/B Delver List (with Death's Shadow, Dark Confidant).  Hope this helps!

Honestly, this deck just needs a healthy dose of Lim-Dul's Vault to set your life to a small amount whenever you're ready to.

@mikemearls The office is basically empty this week, which opens up all sorts of possibilities for low shenanigans

@mikemearls In essence, all those arguments I lost are being unlost. Won, if you will. We're doing it MY way, baby.

@biotech66 aren't you the boss anyway? isn't "DO IT OR I FIRE YOU!" still an option?

@mikemearls I think Perkins would throat punch me if I ever tried that. And I'd give him a glowing quarterly review for it.

I actually realized that last night. That card will hopefully be like glue for this deck. I'll be doing some testing this weekend, and working on a list to test until then.

Another one I like for dropping life quickly is Cruel Bargain or Infernal Contract
Much better in a storm shell obviously, but dropping life for cards could help...
moving towards control more 12

4 Inquisition of Kozilek (I don't have thoughtseize)
4 Dismember
4 Some countermagic that will work here?

then in library manipulation/draw we have 10

2 Convalescent Care
4 Ponder
4 Lim-duls Vault

for getting to the point (winning) 10

4 Timely Reinforcements
4 Death's Shadow
2 Gather the Townsfolk

last minute defense 4

4 Tree of Redemption

mana 24

Birds of Paradise 2
Tarnished Citadel 1
City of Brass 4
Cave of Koilos 3
Underground River 3
Brushland 3
Adarkar Wastes 3
Llanowar Wastes 3
Yavimaya Coast 2

That's where I'm at with the testing list so far. Putting it on cockatrice this weekend. Infernal Contract, I should have thought of that one. The mana base as it stands might not be able to reliably produce BBB, in testing if that's doable often enough I'll test it for sure.

I appreciate all the the help so far, thanks!
I forsee serious problems VS Goblins, Zoo and Fish.

Right. Aggro is gonna be a tough match in general. Maybe I should run a singleton Supreme Verdict and lose IOK in favor of more removal in general.
