MTG art that provokes emotions

Not that this thread gets any love, but this thread is for artwork that gives you some kind of emotion (doesn't matter what kind).

My new favorite art is Stab Wound. I cringe whenever I see it. I feel like I just got stabbed.
Pulling Teeth always unsettles me (Probably because I got to personally experience the joys of getting four teeth pulled followed by getting braces. Which granted, was all in all pretty efficient and such, but still, firstworldproblems).

And Tormented Pariah makes me smile every time I transform him. I don't even have any decks with him, I'll just look at his human side, then flip him over and be like "WHOOPS!"

Zammm = Batman.

It's my sig in a box

Funny story: InQuest Magazine (I think it was InQuest) had an oversized Chaos Orb which I totally rooked someone into allowing into a (non-sanctioned) game. I had a proxy card that was a Mountain with "Chaos Orb" written on it. When I played it, my opponent cried foul: Him: "WTF? a Proxy? no-one said anything about Proxies. Do you even own an actual Chaos Orb?" Me: "Yes, but I thought it would be better to use a Proxy." Him: "No way. If you're going to put a Chaos Orb in your deck you have to use your actual Chaos Orb." Me: "*Sigh*. Okay." I pulled out this huge Chaos Orb and placed it on the table. He tried to cry foul again but everyone else said he insisted I use my actual Chaos Orb and that was my actual Chaos Orb. I used it, flipped it and wiped most of his board. Unsurprisingly, that only worked once and only because everyone present thought it was hilarious.

Hi guys! So, I'm a sort of returning player to Magic. I say sort of because as a child I had two main TCG's I liked. Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon. Some of my friends branched off in to Magic, and I bought two pre-made decks just to kind of fit in. Like I said, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon were what I really knew how to play. I have a extensive knowledge of deck building in those two TCG's. However, as far as Magic is concerned, I only ever used those two pre made decks. I know how the game is played, and I know general things, but now I want to get in the game for real. I want to begin playing it as a regular. My question is, are all cards ever released from the time of the inception of this game until present day fair game in a deck? Or are there special rules? Are some cards forbidden or restricted? Thanks guys, and I will gladly accept ANY help lol.
I have the same problem with women.

That's what RPJesus tends to do. That's why I don't think he's a real person, but some Magic Card Archive Server sort of machine, that is programmed to react to other posters' comments with obscure cards that do in fact exist, but somehow missed by even the most experienced Magic players. And then come up with strange combos with said cards. All of that is impossible for a normal human to do given the amount of time he does it and how often he does it. He/It got me with Light of Sanction, which prompted me to go to RQ&A to try and find if it was even possible to do combat damage to a creature I control (in light that Mark of Asylum exists).

That art always seems odd to me. Like stepping on that skull shouldn't actually break it. I mean, the stepper could be huge, like super fat, or something. But I just imagine a regular person about to have a very awkward stride. Skulls are strong. That's why they're there.

Man, they gotta hire RKF more often. I've always loved his works. They tend to get a bit muddled at card size but I actually enjoy that, weirdly enough...

It won't bend or snap, but the joints will break. I'd wager that you'd have to spend a bit more effort than shown here, but it all depends on the skull, really. Doomed Traveler

Maybe not the art by itself, but the card as a whole. Kind of haunting, and I feel sorry for the dude...
What a great card though.
Recent unsettling cards that make me cringe - Screeching Skaab and Thought Scour Just, urggh *shudder*

A recent card that always makes me smile is Exquisite Blood, purely for it's resemblance to the old Quinton hoover Krovikan Vampire
Uhuhuh. Screeching Skaab gives me the willies. It freaked me out the first time I saw it, and it really hasn't gotten any better since. Which... I guess means it's doing exactly what it should be doing.

Consign to Dream.

RKF is awesome.
Predator's Rapport When I first saw this, if it would have had a Gruul watermark I would have moved it from being my 4th favorite guild to second in a heartbeat. It reminds me a lot of one of my other favorite magic pictures. Actually from the Web Comic. It was when young Garruk was running from the soldiers in the forest and he met the Baloth and placed his hand on the Baloth's head and using magic to commune with it. That picture always makes me feel so.. in awe.. Rapport does that to me too. It just makes me think on how awesome Green mages are with all creatures of the wilds.
Macabre Waltz

The first time I saw it I was simultaneously grossed out and fascinated, like seeing a bad car accident.  I rarely play it but I carry it around in my bag and show it to players that haven't seen it.  Usually they stare at it in awed silence.
Pithing Needle - Why is that guy just sitting there calmly when they're getting ready to destroy his brain but leave his body alive for... whatever?

Gift of Orzhova - IDK, just badass art
sangrophage tis a mite creepy. Wigged my sister and fianće out hard core I laughed

Terti beat me to it - damaging the skull itself is pretty hard (in many cases they can actually stop bullets), and the skull in the picture appears to be in pretty good condition, but dislocating a jaw is still relatively easy.

In reality I think the skull would be way more filthy, but it doesn't particularly matter since it's illustrating a concept.
I have always been fascinated and inspired by these cards with partly abstract art Descendants' Path, Silverskin Armor, Lifelink, Visions of Beyond by Terese Nielsen.
I'm always facinated by Terese Nielsen's art. She's so good at mixing mediums and making them look so natural together while including that sense of 'abstract-ness' too. I love to look at the Silverskin Armor and Sealed Fate together because of the pseudo mirror effect and how well they just flow from one card to the other.
I also wanna jump on the RKF bandwagon, always loved his work for being so unique and instantly recognizable.
On the other side of the spectrum, I gotta mention Unbreathing Horde.
Being a father is probably what does it, but that zombie in the front left of the frame kinda looks like a kid and unsettles me a little, though not enough to not use the card. My zombie tribal loves these guys.
If there's an entire subject of card art that tends to really get me, it's black pulled-under-the-surface art.
Tendrils of Corruption, Corrupt, Grasp of Darkness, Maw of the Mire, Sink Into Takenuma... it's kind of a recurring thing.
There's sort of a creeping, silent dread that goes with spooky dark places. The unlit hallway, the cave mouth, the stairs into the basement. Not just because of all the horrible things your imagination can fit into the dark spaces. The place ITSELF holds a sort of weight, like a will you can almost convince yourself that you can feel. A malice in the darkness itself, a tension. Like if you get to close, walk too far in, all the dark and the narrow and the quiet will reach out and swallow you up.
In Magic: the Gathering, it does.
So this art has always been deeply evocative for me. One of my favorite decks is a monoblack Archenemy deck consisting largely of spells featuring this art. Make of that what you will.

I also have quite a lot of specific art that just really stirs something in me.
Unmake catches the breath in my throat.
So do John Avon's lands, but that's hardly a unique opinion.
Oh, and the Duel Decks art for Lord of the Pit. I can't look at it without hearing Night on Bald Mountain.

For almost all Magic fans, the "story" of Ravnica, for example, is that it's a city world with ten guilds -- yes, for most, that's a "story." All but a tiny fraction of the fan base are entirely unaware of an elaborate plot perpetrated by Augustin IV to trick Agrus Kos and Szadek into breaking the Guildpact, thereby enabling the Azorius to take control. Likewise, the vast majority of Magic players don't know who Harbin is, or Nivea, or Al-Hayat, or Feather, or Jared Carthalion, or Rebbec, or Zagorka ... the list goes on and on.

And one more thing...
CANON is the collected events and details of a fictional work that come directly from its author or someone with equal authority to the author. CANNON is a weapon that fires metal balls at a target, usually a structure or a crowd of enemy combatants. Every time you confuse the two, I'm forced to break one of my own fingers.
Suture Priest has a very fascinating art IMO. I find it strange that it is a white card, it s.uld've been black, or atleast multicoloured.

A long list because I am a huge fan of Magic art work:

Progenitus says 'there's a huge hydra out there and I am scared' I am glad on preview I get the original art. The reprint is not anywhere near as good at invoking dread, more like 'boy that hydra looks like a pack of sausages.'

Temple of Silence It has a bif of sci-fi to it.

A lot of Therese Nielsen's work I like: tiled combinations look great. Magic art work tries to be time preiod neutral within a range that looks roughly 14th century to 17th century Europe, and sometimes something that looks more like 19th century slips in. (Descendant' Path, and someone please fix that aweful %20 error)
