Dark Revenant

Show

5.0: First pick no matter what pack.
4.5: First pick pack 1.
4.0: I will strongly consider playing this as the only card of its color.
3.5: I feel a strong pull into this card’s color.
3.0: This card makes me want to play this color.
2.5: Several cards of this power level start to pull me to this color.
2.0: Should generally make the deck if in this color.
1.5: Decent filler.
1.0: 23rd card if you have to.
0.5: This card will sometimes be sideboarded in.
0.0: I will never put this card into my deck (main deck or after sideboarding).

I'm curious what other people think about this one.  Me, not a fan.  It only ever seems to be relevant against a deck without any flyers which doesn't happen that often.  At least for me it doesn't.

I'm not sure I'd ever play this guy.  If he were more reasonably costed, maybe, but this has the potential to backfire, and it's 'upside' just isn't always worth that risk.  He can really ruin your tempo.

0.0 - .5
Tolkein was a jerk. Seriously, what DM sends 9 Wraith Lords at a Lvl 2 party of Halflings. The only 'correct' way to play D&D is by whatever method is making the group you have at that session, have the most fun.

I won my first RtR draft by killing this guy over and over and over again while I had additional damage sneak through on other creatures.

I found Carmen Sandiego before you were born unless you're Zlehtnoba.

This.  So much this.  I beat a guy the same way.  Like others with the same ability before it, there are just times where you do not want to be drawing this over and over.

Those who fear the darkness have never seen what the light can do.

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights. But you yourself are nothing so divine. Just next in line.

All I'm saying is, I don't really see how she goes around petrifying swords and boots and especially mirrors. How the heck does she beat a Panoptic Mirror? It makes no sense for artifacts either. Or enchantments, for that matter. "Well, you see, Jimmy cast this spell to flood the mountain, but then the gorgon just looked at the water really hard and it went away."
I've seen both the upside and downside to the redraw ability, and I would say they roughly cancel each other out. Leaving you with a vanilla 2/2 flyer for 4 in a set and color without a lot of flyers. Which is somewhere in the 1.5 range.
Very tough card to rate but generally I feel bad if it is in my deck so I guess that makes it 1.

LSV had this one at 2.0 in his set review, I wonder how he'd rank it now.
Combined with the Lich Lord and Death's Presence it might have viability... but then you'd be relying on too many rares for that specific Combo to go off.

Yeah, I'd go for a 0.5-1.

Occassionally when catering, I've been put the task of arranging Fruit and Cheese or Grilled Vegetable platters. More than once a high class buffet has started with the mark of Phyrexia upon it. Since i've got a good eye for color so it looks great to people who don't get the "joke" (it's a niceley divided circle after all: the outline gives you 4-6 "regions" to work with), this has actually got me put on platter design more often, resulting in Phyrexia's presence at more private and industry events.
I have 6917 Planeswalker points, that's probably more than you. [c=Hero's Resolve]"Destiny, chance, fate, fortune, mana screw; they're all just ways of claiming your successes without claiming your failures." Gerrard of the Weatherlight[/c]

I think you might have been playing me

This card is horrible. I will never play it again due to scarring.

I want to elaborate on why this is possibly the worst uncommon in all of the set.

In the best case scenario, this is a 4-mana Wind Drake that never dies and just gets in there every turn. Abbey Griffin was not an amazing card by any standards, but it at least had Vigilance and was run every now and then. This is the best case scenario.

The worst case scenario would be somethink like an opponent having out a Desecration Demon or any other lethal flying threat and having to chump (or sacrifice) this creature every turn. It looks like the card is actually keeping you alive, but it is doing so at the cost of your draw steps. You can never overcome the threat that keeps killing this, while the opponent gets to draw his card as normal every turn. Unless his deck literally has no other ways of killing you until he decks himself (no creatures, burn spells, keyrunes, mill cards, etc.), you are guaranteed to lose this game. That would not be the case if the Revenant just stayed dead and gave you a shot at a draw even if you were drawing to a one-outer (say, Ultimate Price).

Lobster, I am trying to forget that game and you just brought back all the bad memories. Thanks, bro!
