Excerpts: The Art

In today's look inside Ed Greenwood Presents: Elminster's Forgotten Realms, we continue with Chapter 6: The Art. "The Faerunian counterbalance to the strong sword has always been magic—wonderful, awesome, terrible magic. Magic gives its users the ability to harness natural forces to do things that frustrate or counter brute force, awakening fear and respect in those who deal in force of arms, and serving as a deterrent that keeps them from lashing out at will and whim."

Talk about this excerpt here.

I like the idea of Mystra being a goddess dedicated to keeping the world a place filled with wonders.

That said, one thing I feel that isn't well explained about magic in Faerun is why there is so little techno-magical progress like that seen in Eberron?

(Of course, one could argue Planescape and even Spelljammer have some issues with this!)
