Selesnya Aggro needs a little fixing

- I build this deck without knowing the meta in my area since I'm a new player (well played since tempest on and off but only casually)

- Manabase seems ok playtested it against Lorwyn block fish, Lorwyn block giants, and Lorwyn block Treefolk without a loss although I doubt that makes much of a difference since those decks have completely different playstyles than the current standard meta (zombies, delver etc.)

-The deck seems to lack aggressive three drops to me with the exception of the big bad elephant there all my three CCs are answers to opponent's plays

-Populate is a sub theme which helps me stabilize in late game if I get sweeped or can't finish before turn 7 also Trostani's lifegain helps alot and lets me be aggressive without worrying too much about blocking

IMAGE(http://www.nodiatis.com/pub/6.jpg)

Iffy about this but Centaur Healer as a three drop. Also perhaps even a 4th Oblivion Ring but that's just me wanting more removal. Have you looked into Arbor Elf for more ramp? There are a lot of neat little tricks with him as well in RtR including Security Blockade and Urban Burgeoning. They're cute but not amazing except under specific conditions so you can always sidebar those two if you include him. Anyways, on to serious stuff

Other cards to think about are Wayfaring Temple (probably a good three drop), Arrest and I put two copies of Sublime Archangel into my friend's deck.

Anyways, your mana seems pretty good but I might cut a land at your curve. Also, what is your reasoning behind not running Grove of the Guardian?
Dryad is a SB card against zombies and control. Replace with Arbor Elf.

You don't need the populate spell shenanigans when you have trostani and the guildmage. Nix those cards and make 'em Thragtusks.

Things to consider: Armada Wurm and Restoration Angel.

Otherwise, looks good. I'm running a patchwork version of this.

I found Carmen Sandiego before you were born unless you're Zlehtnoba.

@ Rstnme How does Dryad stop zombies?
@ Rstnme How does Dryad stop zombies?

*facepalm*

It doesn't. I was mistakenly thinking of Rest in Peace and their graveyard hate synergies. A liiiiiiiiiiittle tipsy, I am.

I found Carmen Sandiego before you were born unless you're Zlehtnoba.

Haha no worries I thought I was missing something! Don't want people telling me I have overlooked zombie hate cards when my zombie deck is this close to being finished
I would add strangleroot giest for the guildmage.

Yeah, I feel the guildmage is a bit oversaturated as well. Take a look at these cards suggested as well as the Rest in piece. Strangleroot Geist is pretty good as well but I don't know about too many copies of it either. I don't know that this deck takes full advantage of Restoration Angel either, especially if you don't have room to add many Thragtusks

Thanks for all the responses I'm actually looking to add a Thragtusk or two although not really sure what to replace and still don't even have a single copy yet lol

I'm also adding an Armada Wurm on the SB reasoning that I want to win as fast as possible but against decks that can hold me off I can side it in

and oh btw the initial numbers for the deck is off that's 62 cards lol only 2 guildmages not 4

- 1 Druid's Deliverance and -1 Rootborn Defenses adding two Strangleroot Geist gonna test out later also not much to ramp into so I think I'll pass on Arbor Elf

IMAGE(http://www.nodiatis.com/pub/6.jpg)

Ok.. After 5 games testing I came to the conclusion that I can't bear without Rootborn and Deliverance I just play better and more comfortable with knowing I have a few combat tricks up my sleeve although strangleroot did a good job it wasn't enough to convince me to completely change my style..

Centaur Healer trying to make an appearance as a 2 of maybe -1 Trostani and -1 Charm moving them to SB for now

To address the Grove of the Guardian question well as a one of it might work into the finished product but seems too slow to me and I would like to think that I should have won before I get to activate it

also about Wayfaring temple at times he's only a 3 drop for two on turn three although he grows up fast anyway gonna get me a few copies to check them out later if I can find the time to go to my local store

edit: **Wayfaring Temple as a 2/2 for three on turn three but grows up fast** sorry was sleepy so wasn't typing clearly

also Added 4 Wayfaring Temple and 3 Arbor Elf -4 Dryad Militant -2 Guildmages -1 Deliverance(Might Bring this back for -1 Temple if it doesn't give me enough of an edge)

If you are planning on running more tokens, consider adding Parallel Lives, also you could consider a Conjurer's Closet as an alternative for restoration angel if you add things along the lines of Thragtusk or Armada Wurm

What do I see you ask? I see dead people, all of them burned to a crisp... I was bored.
I thought at first to post my new Selesnya deck as a separate thread but I think this thread already covers it. My main change is to use Ajani instead of Garruk from OP's first deck idea. I haven't included Parallel Lives yet I have 2 of this card.

I am trying to leverage populate but did not want this deck to be a one trick pony.

4 Temple Garden
4 Sunpetal Grove
4 Selesnya Guildgate
4 Gavony Township
2 Grove of the Guardian
2 Transguild Promenade
2 Forest
2 Plain

4 Avacyn's Pilgrim
4 Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage
4 Borderland Ranger
2 Restoration Angel
2 Thragtusk
2 Sigarda, host of herons
2 Armada Wurm

with only 8 lands with basic land types(Forest Plains Temple Garden) Would'nt that slow down your Sunpetal Grove drops?(comes into play tapped most of the time) and less to tutor for Borderland Ranger since he can't tutor for Temple Garden? Although I'm not sure since I'm basically an aggro player and can't fathom slower decks. Laughing also is Ajani really a must that he's a 4 of? same question with Township

Suggestion:

-1 Ajani

-1 Township

-2 Transguild Promenade

-1 Guildgate

+2 Plains

+1 Forest

+2 Farseek

also one or two more call of the conclaves since I think you want more tokens/producers guildmage is too slow for her token producing ability but decent populate Midnight Haunting might be a lot of help since it gives 2 flier tokens at instant speed.

IMAGE(http://www.nodiatis.com/pub/6.jpg)

Okay so playtested with no Dryad Militants and 4 Wayfaring Temples. Runnig a lot better now. Skipping the Thragtusk Idea since I feel it will only slow me down. Parallel Lives with Growing Ranks would be awesome though if I wanted a slover yet swarmier type of deck gotta get me some parallel lives soon =)

Time to build my SB:

2 Sundering Growth

2 Rest in Peace

1 Tormod's Crypt

1 Armada Wurm

1 Druid's Deliverance

2 Acidic Slime

2 Paraselene *(if meta has a few Azorius Enchantment decks)

aaaaaaand I'm out of Ideas

Thanks, forgot about how "enters tapped" slows the game down for me but not for my opponent. I don't yet have some of the cards but this deck looks great-qualifying that I am new to the game.

I am on purpose trying to limit the 1/1 tokens on account of Curse of Death's Hold

4 Ajanis not a must....and the lower the number more can go in those slots.

well since you have Intangible Virtue as a four of there's a good chance that your tokens are all 2/2s and up when they come in also Collective Blessing is good since you have some ramp

I would consider removing a Trostani, Selesnya's Voice for a Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage since the populate ability is not a tap ability, and if you are looking to try to swarm even more I just recently tested an attempt at a selesnya/token spawn deck that is similar to this one and it worked pretty well. I never drew the main combos I was hoping for but I still pulled a victory over a really good golgari deck.

Good catch, thanks! Hope I have anough money to playtest my version as well as your version. There is a nice selection of cards to pull from for a Selesnya deck.

Ok the final list is here

Assuming the mana elves survive, you need
five lands by turn 5: 74.7%
three green by turn 5: 82.6% (Garruk, Primal Hunter)
two white by turn 4: 84.7% (Trostani, Selesnya's Voice)

I think you can squeeze in some (maybe 2-3) of the colorless lands (Gavony Township or Grove of the Guardian) without worrying about problems with colored mana. It's practically free. I would also swap a land for the fourth Arbor Elf.

When you test, check how often you have a token for Wayfaring Temple to populate. That might be a problem.

I wanted a fourth elf there too  unfortunately I can't find one anywhere(and it's supposed to be a common lol),

the grove is going in there for a forest,

and the token for temple well it's disturbing I only get a charm or a call for it for about 40 - 55% of the time I have a temple on opening hand. Which makes me kinda want to cut one of them out for some other two or three drop.

Also to address the Trostani to Guildmage swap advice.. I'm sorry but the 2/5 body coupled with life gain is what gives trostani the edge over guildmage to me.

IMAGE(http://www.nodiatis.com/pub/6.jpg)

Current list was tested against a BR discarder deck on store today as well as a Golgari Zombies deck that was really good.

Won agaisnt both, I guess that if I change anything from the current list it will be minor stuff now like the grove of the guardian except for a plains this time.

I've been playing a similar list in all of my testing, i've found that Wayfaring Temple isnt worth it  and why is Rootborn Defenses in this deck? I dont see its purpose because you really cant maximize the populate off of it.

Things that I've found to be amazing

Thragtusk Restoration Angel Makes people scoop (consider getting these in there )

maybe:

-4 Wayfaring Temple
-2 Rootborn Defenses

for +3  Thragtusk
 +3  Restoration Angel

or at least replace the Temple with
x4  Centaur Healer

To answer your question:

Rootborn is my one and only combat trick keeps me safe from verdict and stuff,

and I completely agree with the Resto Thragtusk combo in that it's awesome although out of my current budget.

Lastly I fail to see how Centaur Healer is better than Wayfaring Temple

I played a Selesnya deck last night at FNM, and here is my list.  OH yes, I went 3-2 with the deck losing to a Wrb Tokens deck and URWg control deck.  And both of those losses were in three games, and if they did not win when they did I would have had them the following turn.  Anyways.....  here is the list....

Sideboard...
[deck]
3 Rootborn Defenses
2 Selesnya Charm
2 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
2 Pithing Needle
3 Knight of Glory
2 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Garruk Relentless
[/deck]

First off, I did not netdeck this list.  I have seen some other lists since making this one, but not to copy.  Just to see some other brews.  For my creatures, everything  except the 8 mana dorks is a 3/3 or better in the main deck.  I figured this was best against Zombies.  I wanted efficient, good creatures.  Just the life gain from a centaur healer sometimes makes the difference in a game.   I took the Revenge of the Hunted from the mono-green aggro deck before rotation (and I did not regret that choice).  I have had Revenge used against me a few times and I don't understand how it is only a $2 card...  It's great in the matchups against other decks with manadorks because it works like a board wipe.  And Divine Deflection is a gem in my opinion.  It helped me out a few times last night.
I want to know what to sideboard better against control.  I was thinking 3 Predator Ooze in the sideboard maybe?  Rootborn Defenses is my help agsainst big fatties, and board wipers that "destroy".
Thalia against control, with Knight of Glory against zombies.

I'd nix the Wolfirs and Deflections in favor of Rancors. A T2 Lox into a T3 6/4 Trampler Attacker is pretty legit.

I found Carmen Sandiego before you were born unless you're Zlehtnoba.

Thalia against control, with Knight of Glory against zombies.

I'd nix the Wolfirs and Deflections in favor of Rancors. A T2 Lox into a T3 6/4 Trampler Attacker is pretty legit.

The wolfirs just take it over the top.  Plus flashing in a resto angel to blink out a tapped silverheart, to have come back in untapped and bonded to the resto angel is an awesome blocking move.  It has helped me out in my Naya Midrange deck before rotation, and even at this last FNM I played this past friday.  Right now there is a lot of big nasties being played...  Desecration Demon is one thar people in my area love right now.  So wolfir os more of a choice based on local metagame.  I do like the rancor on a lox. smiter idea tough, and I did notice that my games would have gone quicker if I had more trample damage to get through.  I could take out the deflections, but the wolfirs serve me too well.  Any other cards you can think of that could be taken out?  In my original list I had only 2 o. rings, I added one more when I felt I needed more removal.

It really just becomes a decision of when you want your damage to push through. I tend to strategize toward the beginning/mid games, so my creatures tend to be cheaper and rancored. I'm only running one armada.

I'd only keep the O-rings against control decks, at least in my current meta. Selesnya Charm does a fine job of killing Desecration Demon, and synergizes with every other creature you have--either flashing in a blocker, pumping a creature, or killing a midrange+ threat.

My meta is about aggro, so Wolfir tends to show up on the board a turn or two too late.

You can also lose a forest. I wouldn't want to go below 23 lands, but 17 green sources is a little much. 12 lands for the Arbor Elves is more than enough.

How are the three Revenge of the Hunted playing? I've got two maindecked, I feel like 3 might be one to many but I don't know.

Actually, the 17 sources of green ended up like that because I was short one Sunpetal Grove originally, so I added in a Forest.  But when I got the 4th sunpetal grove right before the FNM started I pulled out a plains for it.  I have 17 sources of green, but with Avacyn's Pilgrim I have 17 sources of White as well.  That was my thinking.
As for the 3 Revenge of the Hunted....  Even if you have to cast on your second turn on an Arbor Elf or Avacyn's Pilgrim it hits for seven trample damage and will kill whatever creature your oppnent may have cast on his first turn.  And with three in the deck I only drew it twice in one game, and it was against token deck.  So I might be a little biased towards it.  My original reason for 3 was because I had 3 bonfire of the damned in my naya deck I was playing right before rotation.

Here is my Selesnya Aggro build, you can playtest it here: Selesnyan Silverbond

4 Avacyn's Pilgrim
2 Arbor Elf
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Silverblade Paladin
2 Restoration Angel
1 Trostani, Selesnya's Voice
1 Thragtusk
2 Acidic Slime
2 Sigarda, Host of Herons
2 Wolfir Silverheart
1 Armada Wurm

2 Selesnya Charm
4 Rancor
4 Call of the Conclave
4 Revenge of the Hunted

5 Plains
7 Forest
1 Grove of the Guardian
4 Sunpetal Grove
4 Temple Garden

I don't understand the absence of Silverblade Paladin in your build, and in the advice given.  He's hands-down one of the most powerful aggro cards in Standard today!  My deck routinely does 10 trample damage on turn 3, and cranks up the beats even more from there.

-4 Centaur Healer, +4 Silverblade Paladin

IMAGE(http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg152/jdealer90/RandomAnimal.jpg)

I bave used the paladin in the past and he is always taken out very fast so I never would get value from him. I went with the centaur healer because he works nicely with resto angel and he is big enough to block all the zombies. It was more a metachoice than anything else. But I do love the silverblade paladin.... I want to work the rancors in...... That will give me a lot more damage to the dome for sure. That was my only issue at FNM..... Was I could have more games through trample damage.

So in the course of playing my selesnya deck I posted in this thread last week, I have found my no. 1 sideboarded card into this deck is Rootborn Defenses......
It has helped me out in a variety of combat situations and each time I use it the loom of suprise on my opponents face is priceless. For example..... I had a soulbonded Wolfir Silverheart on the table in a mirror match, and my opponent also had a soulbonded silverheart. I had drawn and miracle casted a Revenge of the Hunted on my Silverheart. I attacked with everythi.g and his two creatures (a soulbonded wolfir and restoration angel) had to block my silverheart, which would have been lethal for my silverheart. But I had the rootborn defenses in my hand, cast it on my creatures and saved my wolfir silverheart, while both his creatures died. Or another time in a matchup against a zombie deck, I was at 2 life and had cast an armada wurm on my turn and had three mana dorks on the table. My opponent had two geralfs messengers and a blood artist out. He figured I was donewhen he would attack, but I was able to block his two messengers with two mana dorks, then cast rootborn defenses, populated my wurm, kept my two, mana dorms alive and swung for lethal on my next turn. Just love it...... Anyways, had to share that.
